Creating a contact sheet for Photoshop is very straightforward. I normally use it for the front of CD covers putting thumbnails on this so I know exactly what’s on the CD. Go to File, automate, contact sheet 2 and this box is fairly straightforward, folder where your images are, you can browse to the folder that you put them on or your drive. I have just made a folder on my desktop. Click Ok. Include all subfolders if you have other folders in there that you want to include and the size of the document. I have used the standard 4 ¾ inches square for CD cover. Resolution just for the CD cover you have got a 72, I have increased it to 96 so that I can read clearly the names of the files underneath the thumbnails. Because we are going to have to use pretty small font size when you are packing 42 thumbnails on this small area. You can of course decrease this, moving down to here but it actually is a decent sized thumbnail. You can still see it fairly clearly. This flatten all layers box here is if in case you have any Photoshop files in there, you don’t need to keep those layers intact and greatly decreases the file size by flattening everything. They, most of the time, I am sure they’ll be JPEGs. Font and as I say you need to keep it small because you wouldn’t be able to read the full name of the file underneath the thumbnail. So once you have filled all that out, you just click ok and Photoshop will go ahead and do the rest for you. Once this is finished, you will see that I have another tip for you. I put A or AA in front of the photographs that I like best and that way it will automatically put them top left. So when I pick up that CD or an ECD, I quickly scan top left and see which is the best two, three, four photos on that particular cover. You see here, I just renamed AAKitCurlyAA and that way instead of scanning through all the images, you can quickly pick out the best two or three shots looking on the top left. And that’s how you make a contact sheet.
