In this movie, I will install the Windows version of Pro Tools LE on my Pc. If you are a Pc user and you didn't watch the movie on installing Mac software, please do so. I covered some important information that you still might want to know even if you are using Windows. I hooked up a Digidesign Mbox which is Digidesign's entry level interface to my Pc using a USB cable. Now I will insert my Pro Tools LE compact disc in my CD drive. The Pro Tools LE window should appear. If not you can always navigate to it using My Computer. There it is. I recommend you read the Pro Tools ReadMe file before you begin just to see if there are any issues to take care of before you install. If everything looks good on your end, you open up the Pro Tools LE install folder and double click the install shield version of setup. The installer launches and we get the friendly Pro Tools splash screen. Yes we want to install, so click next. Yes we agree we will not pirate this software. Yes, and unless you have a unique installation of Windows, I recommend the default destination folder. Click next. Since we are novices at this point, we will just install the standard windows components. But you can install a trial version of Digidesign's MP3 Encoder and their DV Toolkit if you want to examine them. Click next. Setup now takes care of putting all the pieces where they need to go. Pro Tools LE is installed but now setup needs to make sure your Pc can talk to your Digi interface. I trust Digidesign and I need this Mbox to work right now. So I will click continue anyway at the compatibility warning. Now Pro Tools will install the DigiRack plug-ins which help you sculpt and shape the sound of your mix. And if you are in a multi user environment or if like me you only want to use your administrator account to install software, you will like the fact that Pro Tools now runs well in a non-administrative or limited account and restart your Pc to complete the installation. After rebooting, Pro Tools is now installed and an icon appears on the desktop which you can delete of course. We can now install some extra demonstration plug-ins that are included on this CD. I will re-insert it into my drive. Open up plug-in installers from Digidesign. You can install any of these demos. I will install the Maxim plug-in. This is a decent quality pick limiter that you can purchase the authorization for separately. I will also install the demo for D-Fi, which is actually a suite of four different plug-ins that give you cool audio effect sounds. Again you have to purchase an authorization from Digidesign for it to run past its timed expiration period. There are also some demo sessions that you can install which show you how some of these extra plug-ins operate. But like the plug-ins, they are not required for Pro Tools to operate. I will eject my CD and launch Pro Tools. Pro Tools will load and begin looking for installed plug-ins including the five extras I added. I receive the first authorization screen for D-Fi, which I expected. I will click try for now to get my free 14-day usage. I will do the same for Maxim and do it three more times for D-Fi. It maybe annoying but at least it's tedious. Now you have to enter your Pro Tools serial number which you can find on the inside front cover of your Pro Tools manual. I will enter mine, which like yours starts with DIGI and my version number 0670 and then a space and then the rest of my digits I have blocked out of course. Click validate. Now Pro Tools is ready to edit and mix. I will create a new session just to make sure. Looks good.
