PMI: Scheduling Professional (Part 3) Course

Welcome to VTC's course focused on the subject of Project Scheduling. My name is Vanina Mangano and I will be your instructor. This course is Part 3 in a series of three courses titled PMI Scheduling Professional, meant to give you a thorough review and level of understanding on the topic of project scheduling, as well as a guide to preparing for the PMI Scheduling Professional Certification Exam. If you struggled with understanding PMI's global scheduling standards or seek to master these standards, then this course is for you. As a final part of this series, we'll focus on maintaining and controlling the schedule. But before I take you through a course introduction, I'd like to introduce myself. I am certified by the Project Management Institute as a Project Management Professional, Risk Management Professional and Scheduling Professional. I specialize in project management training and course development and have several years of industry experience prior to moving into the world of training. I've authored a book on preparing for the Project Management Professional Certification Exam, written courseware and participated as a subject matter expert for other project management-related books and projects. One of my favorite projects is to take on the creation of a course so I look forward to going through this course with you. Introduction aside, let's go through the contents of this course. I mentioned that this is Part 3 of a three-part series. While our efforts were previously centered around planning and creating the schedule in Parts 1 and 2 of this series, this course will continue from the perspective of the executing and monitoring and controlling phases of a project. The two primary books that are used as a reference and which I highly encourage you to obtain include the PMBOK Guide and the Practice Standard for Scheduling. I'd like to add a quick note before going through the thorough contents of the course. Planning is crucial to building a realistic and solid schedule but so is properly maintaining and controlling it. It's no wonder that the schedule maintenance, analysis, communication and reporting, all topics that we'll cover in this course, make up collectively 68 percent of the PMI SP Exam. Let's go ahead and go through the contents of the course as we'll be covering several critical pieces of scheduling. We'll start off with a brief review of the material covered in Parts 1 and 2 as a refresher. From there you'll learn all about the basics of communication from a PMI perspective. We'll cover in great detail the control schedule process. This is the critical process of this course where we'll monitor changes made to the schedule. As part of the control schedule process, we'll also talk about schedule analysis. How are we progressing? Are we ahead or behind schedule? These are questions that we'll answer. In order to prepare for the control schedule process, we'll also cover about quality; understanding quality metrics for instance. One that many of you may have been anticipating is earned value. EVN is something that we do cover as part of this course. It greatly pertains to measuring and understanding schedule progress. Other topics include the risk register, since risk is one of our big topics in this course and we'll also talk about schedule reporting. We certainly have quite a full plate. There will be plenty of hands-on practice as well and you'll have an opportunity to go through our usual workbook exercises, exam practice questions and towards the end of the course we'll wrap up with a comprehensive mini exam with practice questions spanning all topics. As I mentioned, we'll be going through quite a bit of content within this course and I hope that you find it insightful and easy to learn.
