Hello everybody and welcome to iPad Application Design. My name is Dwayne Ferguson and I want to welcome you to this course. We're going to cover a lot of cool stuff. We're going to talk about, first of all, what an app actually is and we're going to talk about all of the things you need to do to go from A to Z to get onto the app Store. Now as you can see I have a couple of Apps here from the Tell-Tale Heart HD to Mutant ABCs, A Very Kitten Christmas, all kinds of fun stuff. So what I'm going to do is, I'm going to take you through a tour from the creation of the artwork and as you can see here I have all kinds of layers here and I'm going to talk about how you can build the layers and how you create the Interface like the UI here. And we have buttons that we're going to talk about and audio, special effects, sound effects, I mean, we're going to just cover absolutely everything. We'll even talk about storyboarding, organization, planning and all the things you need to know from where you could find audio, where you can find magazines and resources that deal with App Design. We're also going to talk about things that are really important like the compression of audio and the compression of video files so that your apps won't crash the iPad. And speaking of crashing the iPad, one of the things I'm going to stress to you is that you try to crash the iPad. Now it's pretty important that when you're testing the apps that you build for Apple you want to make sure that when Apple gets a hold of it, before they approve it, you want to make sure that you have thoroughly tested and beat your app up so that you feel pretty confident that Apple won't be able to crash it. Because if they do manage to crash it, they will reject it and send it back to you. So we're going to really cover quite a few things. So let's go ahead and get started. If you have an idea in mind for what you want to build, whether it's a game or whether it's a book which is what I specialize in, I'm going to show you how you can tackle that project and it has to require pretty meticulous planning. Another thing that I really want to stress by the way is really please create something that you would be absolutely proud to put on that Apps Store. Apple is now starting to reject things like, believe it or not, Fart Apps, because that was very popular when the iPad and the iPhone first came out. It was a fast App that somebody could build probably in an hour, to put it on there for a quick money grab. So when you build your apps, well what I do, is I try to think like Apple. I try to from the app itself to the way I advertise the app, try to you know match as best I can, because I'm no Apple, the way they present things to people. So I want to present quality, I want to present something that I think people are going to be very happy to go through and to read or whatever and then last but not least, we'll talk about all the things you can do to promote your app. From blogging to putting Tweets on Twitter, to choosing screenshots that you might want to use and all that kinds of good stuff. So having said all that, let's go ahead and get started and learn about the wonderful world of App Design. Not only is it challenging but it's also very fun and very rewarding.
