Hello and welcome to the Virtual Training Company's video tutorial series on the GIMP. My name is James Street and I will be your tour guide and instructor into this leg of the journey into the world of GIMP. Now I am a free and open source software supporter as well as a certified IT professional and I hope to show you a lot of the really fun and cool things that you can do with the GIMP as well as some of those practical things that you'll be doing on a regular basis. Now our video tutorial series is structured so that you will be learning as much as possible as well as receiving some pretty good experience on how to do a number of different things, so let's go ahead and take a look at those objectives. Now first of all we want to provide an overview of what GIMP is all about so we're going to be talking about what it is, how you can use it and why you might want to use it. We will also be providing you with some foundational digital image skills that will be helpful not only inside of the GIMP but also in other graphics applications so this video tutorial series is aimed at someone who may not have a lot of computer aided graphic design skills so if you're starting out with a digital camera this video tutorial series should get you up and running and get you using the GIMP to the best that you possibly can. Now to achieve that, we're going to be exploring the interface and the tools of the GIMP. Now this is very important because the interface a lot of the times for some of these graphics tools can be a little intimidating because there's so many buttons and you don't know which one to hit for which purpose you're trying to achieve but we will take a look at that interface and demystify it for you. We also want to take a look at some practical examples of how to use the interface and those tools, we're not just going to list everything that you can do with the interface, we're going to walk through a couple of different examples and use some of these exercise files that are available to you and have a bit of fun. I also want to provide you with a number of different tips and tricks on how to do things in the GIMP a little bit more effectively. And of course, last but not least is something I already mentioned but we want to have as much fun as possible exploring this wonderful world of GIMP because there's a lot of things that we can do with the GIMP as the GIMP is a very very powerful image editing tool. And those are the objectives that we have plotted for this video tutorial series.
