The digital data storage revolution that arrived in the 1990's has continued throughout the early to late 2000's. Along with the technology came a new problem. How do we obtain secure and scalable access to the data across developing technologies such as the Internet? Microsoft SQL Reporting Services is a comprehensive, server-based solution that enables the creation, management, and delivery of both traditional, paper oriented reports and interactive, Web-based reports...all in an easy to administer and secure solution. VTC Author and Microsoft Certified Trainer Mark Long will introduce you to the basics of SQL Server Reporting Services and show you how to get started creating and delivering reports with this technology. Work files are included. To begin learning today, simply click on the movie links.
Hello. Welcome to the Virtual Training Company production of the training course on Microsoft Reporting Services. Now I've entitled this course Introduction to Microsoft Reporting Services, and my name is Mark Long. I'm a Microsoft Certified Trainer, hold number of Microsoft certifications and I live and work in the Nashville, Tennessee area. Now, this course that you have purchased Ð thanks, by the way for purchasing it Ð is going to cover Microsoft Reporting Services Tool. Now this thing has been out three or four years and Microsoft has absolutely hit a home run with this product. For years developers have had to wrestle with how to provide adequate reporting from the databases with all the gigabytes, and now terabytes, of information they have out there. How do we adequately assimilate this data into a meaningful report and then, just as importantly, how do we deliver that report to the end users who need it? And of course, this is everything from upper management to middle management to immediate supervisors, to salespeople out on the floor, the manufacturing plants, or whatever. It can be used to control inventory, to deal with vendors and so forth, so this is a huge world and Microsoft has done an excellent job of putting together a tool that we can use to get all these things. Now I'm going to concentrate in this course in Reporting Services at the 2008 level, but a lot of what you're going to see will also be backward compatible to some of the earlier versions of Reporting Services as well if that's the version you're working on. So, I'm going to give you a real good overview to Reporting Services, we'll do a lot of hands on actually with the product, step you through it, and get you productive really quickly. So we're going to do quite a few hours here, so get comfortable, grab something cold to drink and let's get started.
