Now that we've take a look at KDE and GNOME, let's look at a couple of other Linux desktop alternatives. Now, these other desktops that are available out there for Linux just as feature rich, in some cases, as KDE and GNOME, but depending upon your needs and even your hardware, you might want to switch to an alternative desktop. Now, some of these are fully-featured desktops that have some of the same feature-rich things that GNOME and KDE have; while others, on the other hand, are very lightweight, minimal desktops that don't provide a lot of the, the frilly visual effects that other desktops have. The great thing is is that most of them will run on openSUSE with little modification. Let's look at a couple of examples of some of these alternative Linux desktops. First of all, let's look at Fluxbox or Flooxbox, as it's sometimes called. It's a fully-featured desktop but it has very minimal icons and visual distractions. Again, it doesn't have some of the frilly visual enhancements that other desktops have. Then there's IceWM, for Ice Window Manager. It's a very light, minimal-window manager that's, uh, used if you have, uh, low-end hardware or you're an expert user. FVWM is also a light window manager and it was basically designed for speed and efficiency. Now, once again, keep in mind that these alternative Linux desktops aren't necessarily as feature-poor as you might think. Some of them are very feature-rich. They just may not have the visual enhancements that KDE and GNOME have because they were designed with ease of use and enhanced visual effects in mind.
