Subtitles of the Movie
Let’s have a look at the way this course is structured. Firstly we'll learn all the concepts that we need to publish a website. It's my personal belief when it comes to training that people should not just be taught how to do things, they should be taught what they’re doing and why they’re doing it. A lot of people have trouble with things like web publishing because they simply don't understand the basic concepts involved. I see this as particularly important, now sadly it's a lot of me talking and explaining things to you, it can get perhaps a little boring but I see it as an absolutely necessary part of the education process. So please bear with it, it will get better during the rest of the course. When we've got through the concepts, then we simply go through each of the stages one by one from start to finish how to publish a website, how to publicize a website, listing in search engines, things you can add to your website and so on. This course as you probably noticed already is made up of a collection of small movies, you’re in the second one at the moment. You may pause and or rewind each movie at any time if you need to have something explained again or if this course is going too fast for you You may want to pause things and practice them. In fact, I distinctly encourage you to do that every time I suggest to you a technique or a concept the best thing for you to do at that point would be to fire up your program that you use such as your html editor or your FTP program or your web browser and practice or demonstrate to yourself that you fully understand what I’m talking about and then when you finish doing that come back to the movie, un-pause it and continue. I will be showing you quite a lot through out this course. I’ll be showing you various programs that you can use to publish a website such as Macromedia Dreamweaver, Microsoft FrontPage CuteFTP, these are all examples of the sorts of programs you’re going to need if you want to publish a website, None of them such as FrontPage, Dreamweaver, etcetera are absolutely mandatory. You can get by with very, very little if you’re trying to publish a website but sometimes the best way for me to explain something to you is to show you how to do it, now I don't want you to see this as an instruction in one particular program, every program is different. I might be demonstrating to you a concept using Microsoft FrontPage but you might be using Macromedia Dreamweaver as your html publishing program and so it will not necessarily match perfectly, but there will be a correlation. I will be showing you common tasks that all programs perform. I will be simply demonstrating them as an illustration of the concepts involved. So with that understanding, let’s begin.
