So in this video we're going to go ahead and take a look at the Channel Shuffle Node, however this is not the type of node that we're always going to use, it's a very specialty type thing. So in order to show this off, I've gone ahead and created something in the Work Files. So we'll go to File and go to Open and then go to the Work Files 03 Folder and open up the Channel underscore Scuffle.SBS file. Now we open that up we can throw this down and you can see within that we have this Jason underscore Signature SVG. So just go ahead and drag that right into our Channel Shuffle Graph and then what I want to do is just hit the Spacebar and bring in a Uniform Color Node as well. So this Uniform Color Node we can just set it to be, you know, something kind of like a middle blue, that's good, go ahead and zoom out just a little bit so that we can see what we're looking at here and then come down under Templates to our Sample Materials and we're going to go ahead and get a rough substance in here. Now when we double-click on that substance what this is calculating right here is this first output which is our Diffuse. So basically the idea here with our Channel Shuffle Node when we bring this in and I'll just go ahead and hit the Spacebar and bring the Channel Shuffle Node is that we're going to have Primary Input and a Secondary Input. So I'm just going to go ahead and hook up our Uniform Color to our Primary Input and I'm going to hook the Diffuse to our Secondary Input. We're just going to go ahead and double-click. Now right off the bat you'll see under Specific Parameters that we're using the Input 1 Red Channel, Input 1 Green Channel, Input 1 Blue Channel and Input 1 Alpha. Which means that we're basically just getting the Uniform Color but what we can do here is, we can choose to blend any of these Input 2 Channels in wherever we want to. So let's say I want to go ahead and use the Input 2 Red Channel and you can see that we're beginning to blend here. So let's say I'm going to go ahead and get the Input 2 Green Channel and we can come up with various different blends by choosing specific channels from two different images and this is one of the things that you can do with Channel Shuffle. However another thing that you can do with the Channel Shuffle is you can isolate a particular channel to make it gray scale. So let's go ahead and say we want to use the Input 2 Red Channel as our gray scale. So you can see I've got my Red, my Green and Blue Channels all set to use the Input 2 Red Channel as it's input. What that basically means is that we've isolated the Input 2 which would be our Rough Material here that has the Red Channel as our gray scale. Now the advantage of using this over using the Gray Scale Node is that we have the ability here of maintaining a Color Output which can be handy sometimes because sometimes you just don't have multiple nodes just to get nicely to Gray Scale Channel. And of course we can choose any of these channels, if I say I want to do the Green Channel, I can just set all these to the Green Channel and boom now we've got a gray scale of the Green Channel. This can be very useful. Also what we can do here, notice that these two red, green and actually that's already on green and then this one, the blue, for Input 2 we basically got Input 2 as our image. But if I have an Input 1 with transparency, I can go ahead and put that in like so and you can see that the Alpha Channel is using my Input 1 Alpha which is our transparency remember. And basically what we get is, we get the transparency of this SVG but we have the fill using our Rough Material. So this can be a way of compositing transparency of a mask at the same time, keeping the fill of a complex substance that you want to use as a fill. So there's a number of different ways that you can use these Channel Shuffle Nodes, however, like I say, they are very much a specialty item. So you're not going to use them all the time but they're very handy in a pinch when you need to do something very, very specific.
