Continuing on where we left off in the last video, I want to focus on a group of nodes that I think are very similar in the way that they function or at least in the idea of how they function. So we're going to begin by hitting the Spacebar and we're going to choose the Blur Node. Now the Blur Node is exactly what it sounds like, it's a Blur Filter and as you can see here, we increase the intensity, we're going to get more and more blur. If we reduce the intensity, we're going to get a softer amount of blur. Now one of the things that might confuse you, is when you get to the end of your slider here, you might think, that hey, I've reached the end of the intensity of this, but the reality of it is, is that you can type in any numerical value you want, hit Enter and the slider will automatically adjust. Now the truth of the way that the Blur Filter works is that it effectively reduces contrast and you can see that if we get a high enough value here, we just get a pure middle gray. So the idea is that you don't want to get to the point where you completely lose your contrast all together but at the same time, the effect needs to be enough to where you can get the effect that you're trying to achieve, which as I like said, sometimes not achievable within the range that the slider originally gives you. So I'm going to go ahead and just hit Delete button to get rid of this and now I'm going to come back over here like so, I'm going to hit the Spacebar again and now I'm going to bring in the Sharpen Filter and the Sharpen Filter is the exact opposite of the Blur Filter. If we reduce the intensity all the way down, you can see that we end up with our starting point and then as we increase the intensity, we're increasing the contrast and the higher we get the intensity, the more that we pull towards a black and white image. So you can see here that we're basically getting a pure black and white image out of that gray scale image by simply increasing the intensity of the Sharpen. Now if we go ahead and delete that like so, we go over here, hit the Spacebar again, now we're going to bring in the Directional Blur. Now the Directional Blur is just like the regular blur in the sense that it blurs, but it does so in a motion. So if I increase the intensity here, you can see the motion, I'm going to go ahead and click in the background of my 2D View, click the Spacebar so that we can really see this. This Angle Widget here is going to allow us to change the angle at which that motion is occurring. So in this particular instance, maybe we want to create some sort of brushed aluminum look and in this particular instance I need to increase the size of this intensity. So I'm going to type in something like 100, hit Enter and now you can see that we're getting a much stronger motion blur effect here that's going to give us a better looking type of blur for something like a brushed aluminum type of effect. And maybe I want this to be going from something like that, so maybe even a little bit more intensity, yeah something like there. Now what I would want to do is, I'd want to come back over here and I would want to make sure that I've got some sharpening on this. So I'd come back over here to Sharpen like so, double-click that and then again, I'm going to run into the point where I'm not getting enough sharpening here with the intensity. So I'll just go ahead and type in something like 20, hit Enter and you can see now we're getting much more sharpening. So something probably around 13 there is going to give us a nice brushed aluminum type texture. So these guys, like I said, they all work on reducing or increasing contrast and the Direction Blur basically just adds the element of motion. So that is just the basics of our Blurs and our Sharpens within Substance Designer.
