The X configuration file is xorg.conf. It's located in the etc slash x11 directory. We'll just explore some of the basics of this file to help you recognize some typical problems. As in RHCT, most of your work will be done with the display configuration tool. The one you start with is the system config display command. The xorg.conf file is organized into sections. Server layout brings the other sections together. Input device is related to hardware where humans actually send data to the system; in other words, keyboards and mice. The screen section contains configuration directives for the video card and possibly the display. Now let's look at the file. It's in the etc slash x11 slash xorg.conf file. The server layout, this section, which is organized as a stanza, is a default layout. If it were a dual head layout, this would be different. It brings together a screen section, shown below, and a keyboard section. A keyboard is an input device. Sometimes mice, track balls, and other pointing devices have their own input device stanzas. This is a typical PC 105 keyboard; in other words, a typical keyboard with 105 keys and a standard US layout. The screen section brings together the video card device as well as the display. The video card device, the information comes from this stanza up here and the VMware driver is associated with this particular video card. The screen section brings the video card together with some display settings. The view port is centered and the depth is 24 bits; in other words, millions of colors. Of course, there are more complex configurations available, especially if you have set up connections to a couple of monitors, have special hardware, or more, but those are the basics of an xorg configuration file. Thank you and on to the next video.
