Introduction / System Requirements
Subtitles of the Movie
In this video, let's review the minimum system requirements for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. The minimum hardware requirement if you want to install in GUI mode is a Pentium class CPU and at least 192 megabytes of RAM. Of course you'll also need a compatible video card and I like to have at least four gigabytes of hard drive space available. As the RHCT requires you to install Red Hat Enterprise Linux from a network source, you'll need a second computer or perhaps a second virtual machine where you can set up a FTP, NFS or HDTP server. Instructions come in following videos. You can use the VM Ware server machine to create and install your Red Hat Enterprise Linux System available from vmware.com. It's freely downloadable and easy to install on many Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems. Most conveniently in my opinion it supports snapshots. In other words if I change too many things and can't remember what I did, I can easily restore the original configuration through the snapshot. I've installed Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 on VM Ware, in full screen mode to support this course. Alternatives to VM Ware include Parallels on the Macintosh operating system, Zen on Linux if you have a system with a CPU capable and enabled for hardware virtualization or even KVM the Kernel Virtual Machine which is available if you have a distribution which includes Kernel Version 2.6.21 or above. Thank you and let's get on to the course.
