In this course we've addressed all of the RHCE topics associated with the Red Hat Certified Engineer Exam. I specify RHCE topics as this course builds upon the lessons from the VTC course for the Red Hat Certified Technician Exam. This course is based mostly on the syllabus associated with Red Hat's RH253 Course outline. What I cover here is based solely on publicly available information. In this course, we also reviewed each RHCE item in the RHCE Exam Prep Guide describing each item associated with both parts of the RHCE Exam. But remember, the RHCE Exam is split into two sections in two parts each. RHCE candidates need to pass both RHCT and RHCE sections of each part to qualify as RHCEs. So, let's review the RHCT and RHCE requirements for each part of the exam. The RHCT part of the Troubleshooting and System Maintenance section, requires that you solve five problems within one hour. The problems may be associated with any or all of the following skills. You need to know how to boot systems into different runlevels for troubleshooting and system maintenance. You've got to know how to diagnose and correct misconfigured networking as well as diagnosing and correcting problems associated with host name resolution. As an RHCT, you need to know how to configure the X Window system, as well as a desktop environment; how to add new partitions; file systems; and swap space. Of course, you need to know how to work from the command line, so you can use standard command line tools to analyze problems and configure your system. To repeat, you have to solve all five problems in this part of the section in order to pass the RHCT part of the section, then you get an additional hour and a half in the RHCE part of the troubleshooting and system maintenance section to solve three of five additional problems. The problems may be associated with the following skills. Of course you need to know how to set up and use the rescue environment, available from the first installation CD. You need to know how to diagnose and correct boot failures arising from bootloader, module, and file system errors. You've got to know how to diagnose and correct problems with network services, that's any and all of the network services discussed in this course. You have to know how to add, remove, and resize logical volumes on a system where Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 is already installed. And, finally, you need to know how to diagnose and correct networking service problems where Security Enhanced Linux contexts may be interfering with proper operation.
