Now that I have entered all of my actual expenses, I put in allocated amounts, which will act as my spending budget for the month, I'd really like to track how I'm doing. This screen is wonderful for showing us the actuals, but it's a little cumbersome for making changes. You'll notice on the bottom of the screen there's a button that says Show Spending Report. I'm going to select that report button and you'll notice that it brings me to a wonderful category screen. I'm going to go to a full screen and the first thing you'll notice is that there's a wonderful graph on top that breaks it down into the areas. It tells me my Interest Expense, my Auto Insurance, my Utilities. I'd like to go to the largest one, though, and you'll notice that there's 501 dollars but it's blank. Notice off to the side it's blank here also, and again, in the Category Description there's no category that's been applied. This is an area that I'll want to fix. I'd like to know, what did I spend 501 dollars on? To get to the detail, I'm simply going to go to the line item and I'm going to double click. When I do, it brings me to the category report just for that item. Once again, I'm going to double-click to drill down back to the original transaction. Here you'll notice it opened up the register. When it opened up the register, do not be alarmed that you cannot find that actual 501 dollars. Note how my payment is 696 dollars? This might confuse you at first. Look at the side. See how it's split? That's telling me that there were two accounts involved. You'll notice that the Interest Expense was for 195 dollars, but my 501 dollars has absolutely no account attached to it. I'm going to go up to my Auto Finance and right-click. When I go to Split, it shows me now that the category was left blank. If I go to this pull-down, I can now choose the category. I'm going to choose Auto and I'm going to choose OK. Now, I've changed my amount but I have not entered the change yet. I'm going to click on the button Enter and now it's recorded. Please be careful that you actually hit Enter and ensure that you have saved this change. If you have not saved the change, there won't be any adjustment to your budget and to your report. I'm happy with my change. I've accepted my changes. I'm going back to my Home Page. I'm going to choose to go to Cash Flow and to go to My Savings Plan. In the Savings Plan, I'll now go back to my Spending Report and you will notice that that blank space is now gone. Notice that my first category is now Other Auto. I have now attached an appropriate category so that I can review all the information. From time to time we'll find that we get the wrong category selected. This is the easiest way to be able to go in and see exactly what's going on. You'll also notice that there is a Hide Report Button. If I select that report button, it just shows me the entire graph. If I'd like to go back to the report, bottom of the page you'll see the report, pops it back up again. You'll also notice that on the bottom I have chosen to list all of the sub-categories; Telephone, Gas and Electric, Cable all come under Utilities. The minus sign next to it will allow me to collapse those into one total for Utilities at 244 dollars. It's in bold to allow me to know that there are sub-categories underneath. I can also choose Expand All and it will always open up every sub-category. Collapse All will then close off every sub-category. Each of those then will be in bold so that I know there's a number of sub-categories involved. I can simply close out of the Category Report, be taken back to My Savings Plan and I'm ready to go back to work with allocating my expenses and tracking my actuals.
