There are always occasions after setting up an account that we want to change things, or edit that account. To do so, I'll simply go to my Account Bar. You'll notice on my screen that it's actually minimized. I'll hit the plus sign, and it opens up. When my Account Bar is open, I'll simply do a right-click on any item and my menu will appear. First notice that I have the ability to collapse all the accounts right from the right-click menu. When I go back I can simply expand them all. I also have the ability to hide amounts. Notice on my screen there are no totals. A right-click on my mouse will allow me to show the amounts. When I show amounts I have the opportunity to show today's balance, or the current balance, or, if I prefer, the ending balance. This will correlate to our last bank reconciliation. I can toggle between those two numbers, and of course, if I'd prefer some privacy, I can simply hide the amounts. It's nice on occasion to hide the amounts and not worry about people passing by on your screens. This allows me now to set up my information a bit differently. If I'm on the Home page for instance, my goals are set in the center, but you do not see all of my accounting information. When I right-click, I'd also like you to note, that you have a choice of the Account Bar being on the left-hand side of your screen or the right-hand side of your screen. If I select the right-hand side, notice how it just moved it all the way over. This is personal preference in what's going to be best for your viewing. Once again, a right-click, I can shift it right back to the left-hand side. Each of the accounts that are on the screen can also be edited with a right-click. I'm going to right-click on Cash in my Pocket; go to Edit Account, and you'll notice the name of the account, my description, and any other information that I typed in appears. If I Cancel, I can do the same thing with my Personal Checking Account. Now, notice in the Checking Account that it gives me the ability to set up alerts. If, for instance, I wanted to be notified if my balance exceeds five thousand dollars. Perhaps that's my trigger point to transfer money to an investment account so I can take advantage of the interest rate. You'll notice also that the interest rate can be actually input into Quicken. In Reports I can eyeball how much interest I'm making on each account to make sure that my funds are in the appropriate place. It also gives me the ability to put in my account number, contact information, and phone numbers. Now, please remember, anytime you're putting in personal information it is imperative that you have correct security on your machine. Make sure you are always aware of where your backup copies are, and make sure you have ample anti-virus, anti-spyware, and malware protection. We'll talk about each of those in a later movie. In the case of my credit cards, when I do a right-click and edit these accounts you will see that it allows me to put in my credit limit. This allows me to quickly see on a report how much more room I have for spending. It's important to keep an eye on these items so that we don't land up with extra charges for going over our limit. It's always a good idea to take the time to thoroughly set up your accounts. It's also good to get the feel for how easy it is to move these items around. You'll note on the bottom that you can add a new account directly from this bar. You can also remove your accounts from the bar. Now, when you're removing an account from the Account Bar you are not deleting it from the system, you're just hiding it from the screen. If, however, you delete the account from Quicken you are totally removing that item, and of course, we can arrange the accounts to be in a suitable method. Keep in mind also that the same opportunities for rearrangement will come in, in Customization and off of our Edit menu.
