Let's go ahead and start using Bento. Well, I've launched Bento here and as you can see, the first thing that it comes to is Bento's home screen. The Home Screen allows you to do one of four things. You can either watch some training videos from FileMaker's website, you can elect to either show or hide Address Book and iCal information in Bento. You can create a new library based on one of the templates that ships with Bento or you can go just go ahead and jump right in and start using. And that's what I'm going to select right now. So the Home Screen goes away when I click on that button and that Home Screen is great when you're first learning Bento. However, as you become more comfortable with Bento, you may not want to see it every time you start Bento. So I'm going to go ahead and actually turn that feature off by going into Bento's Preferences and down here on the lower part of my screen, When Bento Starts, Display Home Dialog. I will uncheck that box. Other things that Bento can do for me when it starts up is automatically check for software updates. These are maintenance releases that FileMaker may come out with from time to time. We'll leave that turned on as well as reminder which will tell you to back up your libraries either once every week or every month and either way, that's a great option. I would recommend doing it every week. You really can't have too many backups. The more backups, the better. So back in my main Bento window, you'll notice that it's broken into three distinct sections. The upper left-hand corner is information related to my libraries. The bottom left-hand side is field information related to the currently selected library. And over on the right-hand side are the records within my selected library and currently my selected library is my Address Book. You'll notice the little downward triangle next to my Address Book icon. This allows me to either show or hide any collections within that particular library and I have two. The first is for an email list for people that I send regular emails to. The second one is for club members; members within my club obviously. Moving on down to Other Libraries, I have my iCal events and these are calendar events within iCal. iCal tasks; I don't have any of those presently but they're there as well. And finally, a custom-made library for equipment. This might be equipment that we use within our company and within equipment I also have two collections there. Down in the lower left-hand side again I have all the fields that are related to my equipment library. Underneath that field information I have buttons related to fields to either add a new field, delete or remove a field if I have one selected. So simply select and then hit the Minus Symbol, but I'm not going to do that now. And there are additional commands related to fields as well. Over in the Main Records area, this is where you're really going to be doing the bulk of your work. Well, currently you can see that we are in Table View. I can also switch to Form View and if I had additional forms, I would have buttons for them as well. A new feature within Bento 2 is the ability to have a split screen. That allows me to have, as you can see, the best of both worlds, I can have a Table View at the top and my Form at the bottom. This divider allows me to slide the split screen up or down so I can show more or less of one or the other. I can simply flip through my records and show more detail down at the bottom of the screen. This is a great new feature. I love it personally. I think you'll enjoy it as well. Down at the bottom, again, I can elect to show or hide my record information. While I'm actually editing records, I may not need this field information so I can go ahead and elect to hide it. I can add records by using the Plus Symbol, delete records with Minus. There are additional commands I can select with this particular button. And over on the right-hand side I can show or hide tools related to my forms and also in Table View I can show or hide summary information related to my records. We'll talk more about all these specific areas within the Bento window in our upcoming videos.
