QuickStart! - Apple iLife 08 Tutorials

Overview / Overview

Subtitles of the Movie

"Music" Hello everyone. Welcome to Virtual Training's QuickStart! Apple iLife 08. This is Dwayne Ferguson, your host and what I want to talk to you in this overview is pretty much what we'll be learning in this QuickStart! series. I will cover a lot more about the iLife 08 in the full version of this tutorial. But this is going to be just enough to get you guys up and running and making some projects. So, the first thing I want to bring up is I will be covering iDVD, as well as iWeb in the full version of this tutorial and not in the QuickStart!. Now, what we're going to first of all touch off with is iPhoto. iPhoto is your image assets management application where you can bring in images from your digital camera or if you want to, arrange your portfolio, arrange your artwork and everything that you have on your computer as far as images. As you can see here, I have this folder that contains some of my artwork and this was not taken with my digital camera. I simply found this folder and dragged it right on in to my albums. So it's a great way to find old images you have on your computer and bring them into the application. I'm going to talk to you guys about the interface, how to work with events, which is a new feature of iPhoto and how to work with the Ken Burns effect, which is a real nice way to make images come alive. After that, I'm going to talk about iTunes. iTunes is pretty much the same thing as iPhoto, except with music and movies and what I'll talk about is the interface, how to bring in songs from a CD into iTunes, how to rate your songs and also how to edit any song information to suite your needs. It's a great way to bring all of your music collection in one place. Then I'm going to talk about iMovie. Now, if anyone ever worked with iMovie in the past, I'm sure your jaw just hit the floor because they revamped the interface. It looks a little bit more professional, in my opinion and along the lines of something like Final Cut Pro or even any other application that supports digital video, such Premier Pro. What we're going to talk about here is how to import digital video from a camera, how to put in titles and how to work with transitions. Then we're going to talk about Garage Band, the place you come to get your jam on and make your own music and I'm going to talk about how to work with loops, which are little pieces of music that you can assemble in any way you like to build your own songs. Then I'm going to talk about how to control the loop volume and how to share a song by bringing your music into iTunes. Then, last but not least, I'll do an overview about what's upcoming in the full title, such as working with iDVD and working with iWeb, another application in the iLife Suite. So get ready to learn about how to use this amazing application that turns your Macintosh into a digital hub where you can put your whole life together and then share it with the world through movies, DVDs, music and more.
