Getting Started / Advanced QuickBooks Course Objectives

Subtitles of the Movie

Welcome to VTC's QuickBooks 2008 Advanced. Our goal is to go beyond the basics. We'll be talking about strategies, shortcuts and integration of QuickBooks with other programs. My name is Lauri Matson and I'll be your instructor throughout this series. Our goals and objectives are to master QuickBooks. We'd like to concentrate on increasing our productivity and our efficiency. In doing so, we'll be able to take advantage of the full power of QuickBooks. I will be utilizing QuickBooks 2008 Accountant's Edition. Please keep in mind, however, that there will be times throughout these movies where I will be working with Point of Sale and the Enterprise Editions. There are also some prerequisites for this class. Although it is not necessary, it is strongly recommended that you have already taken our QuickBooks introduction course. You should also have a strong background in the Microsoft Office Suite. This would include Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access and Microsoft Word. We'll be talking about the integration of the advanced features in these items. We'll be talking about invoicing and job costing within our movies. Here we'll talk about the estimates, work in progress and sales order. We'll concentrate on the unusual events and we'll talk about items such as mileage, time and reimbursable tracking. We'll also talk about the most common QuickBooks errors. Now, this is not only important to know for what to do when things go wrong, but also for proper troubleshooting. It is much easier to troubleshoot QuickBooks when you know what the most common mistakes are. We'll also be discussing maintenance and data verification. It's important to make sure that your books are good and solid at all times. To do this, we'll be talking about our backups, restoration of data and checks for the integrity of our data. We'll also discuss cleanup. When is it time to condense your data? When is it time to set up a new set of books? We'll talk about each in length and discuss all the pros and cons. We'll really concentrate on advanced troubleshooting throughout our movies. Our goal is to really put QuickBooks to work for us. Of course, we'll handle payroll, concentrating on our time tracking and our personalized deductions. We'll also talk about items such as commissions, 401Ks, worker's compensation and payroll taxes. We'll concentrate how to ensure that our payroll is billed out correctly to our clients. We will also discuss our journal entries and reporting. When talking about our journals, we'll emphasize the year-end closing procedures. We'll also talk about what entries should be automated, what entries are manual. This will include discussion on memorized transactions. Finally, we'll talk about audit trails and what to do for fraud protection. This will include some internal controls. With working with our internal controls, we'll insure our books are set up for all of our tax forms and that our government filings are scheduled and on time. Our class is devoted to the advanced features of QuickBooks and how to put it to use for you.
