Introducing Web Layouts. Whether you're new to QuarkXPress 8 or a seasoned professional you will find that the web tools are really easy to use and that they can open up an entirely new world of opportunities for your design services. Using the same tools that you used for creating Print Content you will be able to create web content that includes pages, forms, buttons and more. Combine the web tools with the interactive tools for a rich, user experience. In this movie we will tour the web tools. When you launch QuarkXPress 8 the New Project Dialog Box enables you to choose from 3 different types of layouts; Print, Web and Interactive. This time I'll choose Web and then set the parameters for my web pages. Another way and probably easier way is to convert a print campaign into a Web Layout. This movie contains Work Files that are available on the course CD and for download by VTC Online University Members. Download the Open the file titled Web Layout. Let's get started. This file is a brochure that was created for print but many of the assets and all of the text will be used for the landing page for this campaign as well. To prepare this brochure for Web Layout I want to synchronize my content. That will ensure that if pictures or text are changed within either the Print or the Web Layout at anytime in the production process I want have to make the changes to both layouts. This greatly reduces the chance for errors along the way. To Synchronize use the Shared Content Palette, click the Headline then click the Plus Sign in the Palette. There's more information on how to use this Palette in the movie titled, Shared Content Palette within this video series. If you need help setting up the Synchronized Content, please turn to that movie. I will continue setting up the major components as Shared Content that includes my images and my text. I do not Synchronize the attributes of the PictureBoxes since its likely that I will need to use different sizes to accommodate the differences between a Web and Print Layout. When I have finished synchronizing my content I simply duplicate this layout using the Layouts Menu and define the duplicate as a Web Layout. Now that I have a Web Layout mostly complete, notice that once you create or navigate to a Web Layout you have a new Tools Palette. If your palette is not open you will find it in the Window Menu in the Tools Flyout Menu and its titled Web Tools. QuarkXPress 8 will convert all images and any text for which you wish to maintain strict formatting to a suitable Web Format. This is done automatically when you export the pages. To define a settings for auto generated graphics files select the image or images, go to the Modified Dialog Box from the Item Menu or press Command M on a Mac or Control M on Windows. Click the Export Tab to define the settings and click OK when done. I'll work with my page elements and format it more like a Web Page and less like the brochure with which I started. In QuarkXPress 8 you interact with pictures, text and boxes in the same ways you always have. Click to drag items with the Item Tool, click on Handles to resize or content or both and select Text to apply formatting. Using the Webs Tool Palette I can add forms and rollover buttons, again using familiar QuarkXPress 8 controls. Turn to the movie in this video tutorial for more information on how to use the Hyperlinks Palette to add live links through out your project. Turn to the movie on Interactive Layouts for help in adding animated content to your Web Pages. Click the Globe Icon here in the bottom left of the Project Window, this will launch the browser defined in the Preferences Dialog Box. Creating Web Pages in QuarkXPress 8 is as easy as creating print content. Don't worry about how to get started, just convert something you've already created and start exploring. You'll have HTML Content in no time that you can share with your web team as a starting point or as completely designed and ready to post pages. The Web Tools and Features of QuarkXPress 8 are quite extensive, so we've dedicated a video series to that topic. This movie is designed to give you a broad overview of the capabilities.
