Introduction / About The Pro Tools LE CD
Subtitles of the Movie
Hi there, let me first talk about the making of this CD and some of the extras you get when you purchase this CD. When you purchase this CD, you will be able to view these movies as reference material any time you run into questions. Also know that when these movies are viewed locally on your own computer, the sound and video quality is much greater. This is because the online movies have been compressed for web delivery and the web versions don't retain all of the richness you will experience with the actual CD. Because of the limitations of the recording software used to make these movies, I must keep my monitor set to 256 colors at 800x600 screen resolution. What this means is that the Pro Tools interface might look different on your personal computer if you have your screen resolution set to 1024x768 as Digi design recommends. I am asking my computer to do more than you would normally using Pro Tools LE. I am running 4 Protool sessions while capturing these movies simultaneously. In effect, I am authoring movies on my Mac while running Pro Tools LE. And remember, Pro Tools LE is a host-based system, which preferably would have the exclusive attention of my CPU. Because of this I have to limit my track and plug in count lower than I normally would. And I am using 16 bit 44K sessions instead of my normal session set up of 24 bit and full blown mixes. So when you see me talking about a full mix and only see 12 or 15 tracks, you will know that I had to cut some tracks out. You still get the advantage of seeing this awesome program running firsthand and getting insider tips that will make your productions top of the Bill. Just remember that under normal operating conditions and depending on your CPU power, you will be able to run 24 tracks of 24 bit audio at 44 or 48K and up to 128 midi tracks with an ample amount of R-tabs plugins active. You will also be able to record an output from 1 to 18 audio tracks at a time using the 8 analogue, 8 optical and the SPDIF I/O's. I've included a Goodie's folder on the CD. In the Goodie's folder are session Templates that you can use on your Pro Tools system. These Templates will help you to get up and running quickly in Pro Tools and provide you with many options for customizing your own sessions. When you open the Templates on your own system, you will be able to come back to the videos as a reference and get a clear understanding of how I configure the sessions for you. Also included is my own collection of Digi rack and third party plug in settings files. The settings files will produce different effects depending on your source material. They are a lot of fun and provide you with some creative examples of using Digi rack and third party plug ins. And there is a VIP folder too; it's filled with third party extras and other essential files that will be of great help to you. In the next movie I've thrown in a little racy demo to show off Pro Tools a bit for you. Then I'll briefly outline my training approach, and we will have an overview of hard disk recording and the key features of Pro Tools, and then we will delve in to 13 chapters of top level operations and secrets of Pro Tools controls.
