Poser allows you to bring in props or geometry from any application that allows you to export or save as an obj file format or any format that Poser understands like Moto, Lightwave, 3D Studio Max and so on. Now, you can also import other file types into Poser but for now I just want to show you on my Desktop what I have here is a file called Head.obj and once again this is the extension. It's the Wavefront obj file and Wavefront is the name of the company that used to own Maya. It was Alias Wavefront and then they were bought by Autodesk and the obj file format is pretty much the industry standard as far as being able to go from one application to another. So I can open an obj file in pretty much any 3D application that supports it. It's the most widely used file format so if you're using Blendo or any application at all and you want to bring your stuff into Poser, just save or export in this format. Now, if I go to File and Import, you also will see that I can bring in a 3D Studio file, a dxf, Lightwave and there is the Wavefront obj. Nine times out of ten I will choose this file format as opposed to the others. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to delete Andy for now. Click on him anywhere and hit Delete on the keyboard and I'm going to go to File and I'm going to go to Import, Wavefront obj and you have some options as usual. You can have the object centered when you bring it in, you can choose to place it on the floor, you can choose the percent of standard figure size so you can bring it in at 50 percent or a hundred percent or whatever. You can also offset it if you want to based on the coordinates; X, Y and Z. You enter those values here. You can also weld identical vertices so that if you have overlapping vertices that are taking up the same space, they will be automatically welded. You can also choose to make the polygon normals consistent. Normals, by the way, is the name for any polygon or any parts of the mesh that we actually see. You can also flip normals so that they are the opposite direction. The best way to explain this is a crate, a wooden crate. We can see the crate because the normals or the wood are facing us but imagine if the inside of that crate was visible and we flipped those crates and all the planks of wood were facing inside the box. So we wouldn't be able to see the box anymore because the normals are not facing us. You can also flip the texture coordinates so you can flip on the U or the V coordinates. So I'm going to go ahead and say OK, I'm going to click on the Head.obj, hit Open and in a second we'll have the head model sitting on the floor as we asked it to. And as you can see, you can do this with a table, a hat, a cane or anything that you create and save as that format. So that is how you can bring in props to work with inside of Poser.
