The Interface / Library
Subtitles of the Movie
Poser 8 comes stock full of great Library items, which means that you can have all kinds of poses, figures and props at your disposal, so you can create pretty much any kind of scene you could think of. The Library is over here on the right-hand side of the Interface providing that you didn't move it somewhere else and what you can do is simply hover your mouse over one of these Icons here to see what the Library contains. Let me go ahead and just mov this guy out of the way, I'll close that for now so we can focus on the Library. As you can see here, we can see the Library and the Library we're in is Poser 8. If we have any downloads we can see those as well and we can also choose All to see everything that we have installed. We also see the Category that we're in as well. So, as you can see when I hover my mouse over this Icon here, this is the Figures Library. What this means is there are different Figures inside of this Library that I can use in my scenes. So I can go ahead and twirl one of these guys open and as you can see there's an Alien in there. I'll go ahead and just double-click on it and just by opening it up a little bit I can see that I get a gigantic preview as to what it looks like and there it is. An Alien has invaded this scene! So there he is, with the textures and everything. So you can do all kinds of cool stuff with this character. Now, in reality, I would have originally gotten rid of this one here, the blue one, but I just wanted to show you how to get something into the scene - simply double-click on it. So, as you can see you can simply twirl these guys open and see additional figures; there are animals in there, here's a dog and here's Alyson, click on the picture one time and you can see a bigger version of it. And let's see what else we have. This guy is the Pose Library and I can apply poses to my figures. So I'm going to go ahead and create a brand new document and I'm not going to save this one and I'm going to apply a pose to this guy. So I'm going to go ahead and rotate my Camera and I'm in my Poses, I'm going to choose, let's see here, let me find something interesting, let's go up to the Wildlife Series and see what's in there. Nothing in there. OK, great. So, I'll scroll down and I already have one open. Here's Action for Ryan. I'm going to double-click on Jump and the preview matches what I get. Here's the Jump, here's the Jump. I'll double-click on CatchingCab and now he's catching a cab. Next to our Poses we have our Face Library. We have Hair, we have Hands - because hands really are like the eyes the heart and soul of your figures. The eyes and the hands tell a story and all you really have to do to study how people use their eyes and hands is simply to observe them. So go to a cafe, sit there and just watch people. Watch how they communicate and they use their hands to emphasize things and how they use their eyes and eyebrows. This kind of study can really bring realism to your animations. This guy here is our Props Library. Here's our Lights, Cameras and Materials. So feel free to peruse the different categories in the Libraries and apply them to your figures to see what you come up with. We'll talk more about these guys later on and during the entire course.
