The Interface / Poser Workspace

Subtitles of the Movie

Let's explore the Poser 8 Workspace. Well, at the top you'll find the standard Menu Bar that you'll find in pretty much every application on the planet. You'll be able to access your Preferences if you're on a Macintosh under the name of the application. In this case the Poser 8 Menu. On a Windows Platform chances are good you'll find it under the Edit Menu. You can go to the File Menu whenever you want to create a New File, Open a File, or even Open Recent Files. You can also choose to Import things like Background Pictures, QuickTime Footage, and you can Export as well. The Edit Menu allows you to Cut, Copy and Paste, and Duplicate Figures. You can even Restore things if you happen to mess up a little bit. The Figure Menu, of course, deals with the Figure, so you can do things like apply Balance, Symmetry, Drop figures to the Floor, Hide and even Delete them. The Object Menu lets you look at the Properties of specific things. You can even lock things in place, have things point at other things, and replace body parts with props, for example. The Display Menu allows you to look at your camera, production frames, document styles and more. Tons of stuff in here. Render is where you're going to be spending time tweaking settings and doing final renders of your scenes. The Animation Menu, likewise, will be where you perform your animation tasks. Of course, that's in conjunction with the Timeline down here and the Transport controls to go back and forth through different frames that you may have created. The Window Menu allows you to open up any Palettes that you may have hidden by mistake or that you want to keep hidden on purpose until you need it. For example, you don't really need the Walk Designer or the Talk Designer if you're just posing your figure. The Scripts Menu allows you to work with Scripts and of course Help lets you find things that you might have difficulty with. Over here we have our Tabs or Rooms. This is our Pose Room, we have a Material Room, Face, Hair, Cloth, Setup and Content. Setup is helpful when you want to configure a figure that you may have created yourself. Over here we have these guys called Palettes and you can tear them off if you need to. When you see the hand click and drag and you can place it wherever you'd like it to go. These Palettes can then float if you just hover them over the main window. In the upper right-hand corner you'll see these little guys right here and you can click on those. Let me see if I can grab real fast and you can find other options and inside of them. So you can go to the Camera Controls and you can go here to make a window Docked, Floating, or even Drag Docking Enabled. You can even go here to Close it. And that brings me back to the Window Menu. So we can always go back here and get things back. So here are the Camera Controls that I just tore them off. So, down here we have the ability to look at our Port Setup. Over here we can look at our Display Tracking so we can change how we interact with our models. We can put a shadow on or off here. Down here we have our timeline and all of the tools we need to manipulate our frames and I'll talk more about those guys later on. Over here we have our Library, our Search Functions and our Favorites. These buttons allow you to go to different things in the Library, from figures to poses and other things as well. These guys are called Parameter Dials and these are a great way to manipulate the parts of your figures. But don't worry, guys, I'm going to cover all this stuff in the rest of this course. So this is a brief tour of the Interface.
