3D Primer / Navigation
Subtitles of the Movie
Later on in this course I'm going to spend a whole bunch of time talking about the Camera controls, but for now, especially for people who are brand new to 3D I just want to show you some very basic tools that you can use to navigate inside of your Viewport. When you're modeling or when you're posing or texturing or anything with 3D you're always going to be wanting to move around your figure so you can see how things are going along. You want to see how the fingers are being posed when they're holding a glass, for example. You want to see the facial expressions and you're going to want to see that from every angle while you're working. So, a very quick tip for you to tumble, or move around your model, is to hold down either the Alt or Option key. Click and hold that down and with your mouse click and then simply move around like so. So I can move my mouse and I can tumble around in the Viewport. And that's just a quick way to move around so I can see what's going on with my figure. Now what I'm going to do is I'm going to show you how to use these guys and once again I'll cover them more in depth later on to move around as well. To move along the X-axis you're going to want to use either these hands here, or simply click and move your mouse. So as you can see there, by simply keeping my mouse here and clicking I can control where I move this object, so I can click and move it up to go on the Y-axis and I can click and move it down to go down in the Y-axis and I can click left to go along the X and right to go along the X as well. Now I can go Z and Y with this hand, so I can go forward in the Z by moving my mouse toward me and I can go further away by pushing the mouse away. I can move the mouse up to go up the Y and down. So, left, right, to zoom, or near you and away from you and by the way, if you mess up like I just did there don't worry about it. Just go to Edit, Restore, Camera. You can also use these hands to do the same thing. Click and move your mouse, click and move your mouse, or just stay right in the middle of it and you can get all of them. So, that is a quick way to Navigate and I'll talk more about how to use the rest of these Camera controls later on, but that should get you started at least. I think that the most commonly used one, that I use, is the Alt and Option key to mov around my figure while I'm modeling or sculpting or posing.
