Introduction / Interface
Subtitles of the Movie
In this movie, I'm going to be covering just a little bit of Interface Configuration on ZBrush and explain a little bit about ZBrush and how it functions. You know, when you open up ZBrush for the first time it's like, Wow! I'm never going to ever learn this product, because you know, the buttons are actually not labeled very well and there's a reason for that and the reason is, everything's abbreviated because when you get used to actually using ZBrush you don't even notice it, and I like it this way now. I didn't like it before when I first started. You know, things like M, or Csub. These are all things that are very abbreviated and you'll find each and every one of these is actually very, very abbreviated. Like S. Oh, come on. I mean, would it be that hard to type out the rest? Shaded colors? Now, think about it. If they actually did type out Shaded Colors in there, what does shaded colors mean? Hmm? So, a lot of it even is abbreviated and when you mouse over it, it gives you this cryptic message, like Select ZDepth. Hmm. So and it gets even better. So, if I'm in the button and I really truly don't understand its page over, like this: GSI is GSI, what's GSI? So if I hold Control over every button in here you actually get a run down in another little pseudo-cryptic language. So, that's what I'm here for, is to break these down because some of these are very cryptic. I'll just give you that. You know, if I go into RF, you know, that actually has a really good little saying behind it. But some of these, hmm? So, don't lose hope. It actually is laid out for a purpose and that purpose is streamline. And it's all about workflow and I'd rather have a streamlined workflow any day of the week. So, as long as I have a big old canvas to play with, and a little tiny over here, just some room to put some of my docs. Let's explain these docs and how they work. So you have a doc on the left hand side and a doc over here that you can open and close using these. Okay, so if you're left-handed, maybe you should throw some stuff over here, but I'm right-handed so I'm just going to always throw my stuff over here. Should you throw stuff in both sides? Well, look how small your window is now and yours is probably a little bit bigger than mine because I'm capturing at a very low res for these videos so you can actually read some of this stuff. Okay, so let's take for example, I want a New something over here. Well, let's go to Tool, click and drag it over, Tool appears. Let's go to Transform, click and drag it over, Transform appears. I only use Tool most of the time, so I'm just going to leave Tool over there. And in fact, it's probably my number 1 thing I use all the time, and the rest of it I just kind of just go up here and actually go into it. So. Now, how do I save this? I just got done throwing some of these palettes over here. I can now save that information under here. Save UI. And these get saved under Pixologic, ZBrush 3, ZStartup, Interface Layouts, and you can call it whatever you want. I'm just going to call mine by my name, hit Yes. Now, there are a lot of these built-in. So you can go up here to the top and click and you'll find a bunch of these that are existing. Here are my lefty's, here's one that you have to be a total brain to actually use because there are no tools whatsoever, but nice interface, huh? Okay, here's something that I developed a long time ago that I'm ashamed of, and here's another one that they kind of use for like an older version of 3.0. This is a very streamlined version also because I can grab my brushes real quick. So you can keep popping these over. And here's mine I just set up. Now. Let's take note that I changed the Interface. This one actually works good, but let's go to one that has like left-right side shelf. Sometimes you're going to have a hard time clicking on these buttons up here if you change the Interface. It happens, okay? And it happened to me a lot. Right now it actually seems to be working pretty good, but just know that it does happen. So make sure, after you actually change something and save it, to restart ZBrush if you're happy with it, and then it will go away and it'll actually function correctly. I'm just going to go back to Jason because, there we go. Now, another thing that you can change in the Interface is colors. Just like that. The next button over. So, I always stick with like around in this region. I just like it better because it's just so much easier to read. So, enough changing that. How do I keep the colors? Okay, again, under Preferences, see, and here's where my bug is: see how I'm clicking on Preferences finally and it's not letting me. So I have to kind of back down and then shoot across to get to it, and here I can go to my configuration, Save UI. But this time, for colors, I have to save it under ZStartup, User Interface, Colors. And I can save it within here under a custom name. So, that's what I'm talking about with the Interface. See how it's not functioning correctly? But when I restart ZBrush it'll actually function correctly. Not through here. Not through the Preferences initialized, but actually shutting it down and reopening it. Okay, so that's it with this movie. I just want to run you through that.
