Introduction / Plugins
Subtitles of the Movie
In this movie, I want to cover plug-ins. Plug-ins are very important to ZBrush. You can do a lot with the plug-in, you can damage a lot with a plug-in, so that's why I'm covering it as an introduction lesson. ZBrush 3 runs ZBrush 3 plug-ins, 3.1 runs ZBrush 3.1 plug-ins, ZBrush 2, same. Keep the plug-ins the same with the version number. If you do not do this, something bad will happen and you'll probably end up losing your licensing on ZBrush by a crashing. If you go to re-install without transferring the license on ZBrush you'll have to wait 7 to 10 days, okay? So, I'm covering this ahead of time. I didn't fall for it all at one time, no. What you're looking at is one of the plug-ins from Anacomic at Pixologic dot com, and it is called Felt Collage Manager. It's one of those things that, you know, you're going to want plug-ins, you're going to hear a lot about plug-ins, and you're going to install plug-ins, and I just want to make sure you're safe. It's just me looking out for you, okay, so it's a pretty neat program. It's one of those programs that, you know, it's for the undiscovered artist that might be using this, but it's a very safe plug-in, and that's why I've chosen it for this example, okay? So, it's not about the plug-in. You can play with it all you want and learn from it, just know plus 10 and you can actually change the depth of paint. So, let's go over to ZBrush Central real quick, kind of have a look around. ZBrush Central dot com, and if you go to Pixologic dot com just look for ZBrush Central. Here's what loads up first. ZBrush Central's a very nice place. As a beginning artist for ZBrush, you get all kinds of tips and tricks. Here's a ZBrush scripting utilities forum in here. You'll see many, many, many, many plug-ins. Here's a tip. Go to, let's say, let's say Make1Mesh, for example. No, ZCurve. Let's look at the posting date, okay, this plug-in was 08 of 11 of 05. ZBrush 3.1 was not in existence until '07. So this tells me this would be a bad plug-in to install. It also is labeled, but sometimes if you look at these labels Version 3.2. This is 3.2 the plug-in, not 3.1 of ZBrush, okay? And sometimes they label it 05 updated. So, that's a tip. Now, as I said, here's Felt Collage Manager, it's a very safe plug-in. I like it because it's very well-labeled and I know the author. Marcus is another user in this forum and he's actually the manager of the place and he's got some really good plug-ins also that are very safe. Okay, here's Felt Collage Manager. I'm going to save it, Save, Save As a Document on the Desktop, hit Open it. Another thing you can check? Here's the ZScript file, look at the date: 2007. So I know it's in the era of ZBrush 3.1. Okay, so you get these files right here. Where did they go? Okay, if you hop on over to your Pixologic directory on your computer under ZStartup, so mine's in a 64-bit operating system, so I've got this 86 prefix. Program files, Pixologic, ZBrush 3, ZStartup, here's ZPlugs. If you don't have this directory make it. In it put these files. Yes to All. Now, these are material files, so I'm going to put them in another place also and I'll show you why. I'm going to put these in the ZStartup Materials. I'm going to drop them into this folder and hit Yes. Yes. Just overtopple them. Now when I'm in ZBrush what I'm going to do, I'm going to set it back to where I first started and what you'll find out is once you launch a plug-in it usually goes to the bottom and stays there, so I'm just going to kind of hide this for a second, pretend I don't have it installed. Okay. If I go to ZScript in Load I can go to the Felt Collage Manager, which is in the ZPlugs Directory, hit Open, and it'll pop this open for me. Hit Start, it'll ask me to initialize and continue and it's also going to ask me, probably, where the materials are. Even though they're in the Materials Directory, most of the plug-ins will do this if they're asking for materials, so that's why I put it within the ZPlugs Directory. It's the first one that pops up making it very convenient for me to pick this and hit Okay. All right. So, that's it as far as installing a plug-in. So have fun with it. It can't anything, and there's plenty of stuff to play around with here, just know choose plus 10, it'll set it within a different ratio depth value than the other strokes. All right! And that's it with this movie.
