Beginners Workflow / Making a Macro

Subtitles of the Movie

Okay, before we go on, I'm going to show you how to write a macro. This macro is going to be a sculpting plane and we're going to be using the sculpting plane as a terrain layer, so terrain is, well what you walk on outside, has rocks on it that's terrain. We know terrain to be what's in video games. It's one of the terminology things we use. So, let's go in here and let's go into Macro and click New Macro. And it says, "Do you want to do this?" You have to fully initialize, so hit Yes. Okay, so all your Alphas disappeared and that's why I had you save them out to your desk top. Okay, so now that we have that time is ticking. No, not really, because what will happen is when you're writing a macro in ZBrush it's different than writing a macro in any other program. Usually a macro consists of time. ZBrush doesn't record your times. You could take your time and do this the right way and don't have to fear about rushing. So, over here, let's go into 3D Plane. This is part of my macro and I'm going to click and drag it out and hit Edit. After I click Edit I'm going to turn it into a polymesh by going here. After a polymesh I want to divide it to a million polygons, I think 6 is a million, yup. And now, that's it, actually. So, let's go into Macro and turn that off. Now it's asking me to save the macro. I want to save it on my C Drive, Program Files, 86, Pixologic, ZBrush 3, ZStartup and it's going to be Macros. Then we're going to put this under Miscellaneous and call it Make the Plane and hit Save. Now you can name it whatever you want. You can name it Cucumber Sandwich. It doesn't really matter. Hit Save, hit Yes, and there we go. Under Macros we have this now new macro called Make the Plane. If you go in Initialize ZBrush, let's say I want to test out my new brush, or you know, just have fun with ZBrush, I need something to sculpt on, so I'm going to go make the plane. There we go. That's how you write a macro.
