Beginners Workflow / Tool vs. Document
Subtitles of the Movie
In this next movie we've got to understand what a Tool is compared to a Document. So, we're going to look at Tool Palette for a Tool for an example for this. So let's go to Tool and let's go to a Sphere. Click and drag anywhere out in 3D world here and hit Edit. Okay, so a Tool I'd be able to rotate around. A document you cannot rotate around. To demonstrate this I'm going to say make a polymesh, for an example, and rough this surface up. Now, we're going to be using this object later on, so make sure you do what I say. We're going to make a rock basically. So I'm just going to kind of mess around with it, just go like that. Let's say I want a little bit more detail so I'm going to divide it and divide it one more time. There. Good rock. Might not look like a good rock. It looks like a raisin, but that's all right. Okay. So what we're going to do is Save this rock-raisin in any kind of folder called Lesson One, and I'm going to call it Rock One. So now a complete noob to ZBrush, we call you noobs. Yes. You know, newbie, would have done this. They would've got done with the rock and they would've went Document, Save As, and they would've said, oh, yeah, I want to save this document, and I'm going to call it Rock One. Okay. And they would've got this, so day two would've gone by and they would've thought, well, you know, I like that rock and I'm going to basically add a little bit more to the rock, so I'm going to go over to Document and I'm going to open the document Rock and hit OK. What you're going to find out is you cannot rotate around the rock. You're going to drag around on it and you're going to make this magical red goo. Okay, so, now. Let's clear the red goo, and go back into the Tool and load the Tool. Click and drag out and hit Edit. There we go. That's the difference between a Tool and a Document.
