3D Tools / Hiding Geometry

Subtitles of the Movie

Okay, In this movie, what we're going to be covering is Hiding of Geometry. Let's go over to the Macro Palette and let's go to Make a Good Box. Let's click on Frame, let's click on Geometry and let's go to 3. Now I want to keep this resolution in this resolution only. So I'm going to say Delete Lower and Delete Higher. Okay, now get ready for this because it's some keyboard fun, let me tell you! And get used to doing this because we do it an awful lot. Control and Shift, and you'll see this little Lasso Tool. Now, holding Control and Shift and then moving my mouse over here, I can click and drag with the mouse and let go, and it gives me that selection. If I want anything back, holding Control and Shift and clicking anywhere will return it back. Holding Control and click, drag, let go of Shift this time, and you'll see a red box. Let go, and you'll see this. So, let's do this again. How about we want to get rid of the center square? Control and Shift, let go of Shift. Control and Shift anywhere to get it back, sample 2, everything but the square. Control and Shift, let go of mouse, there we go. That gets very, very tedious sometimes, and we'll use it an awful lot when you get into modeling, trust me. Because what will happen is, when you get lots and lots of polygons and you only want to sculpt on one little tiny thing and a very fast way of doing it is hiding everything else. Okay, let's take another example for hiding and unhiding in Geometry and cover polygroups along with this video. Let's just take for example, maybe I want to take this string of polygons right here, and turn it into it's own group. Group Visible. What you'll see is, it changes color, and this one's a different color, so what you can do now, instead of going like this, but now what I can do is hold Control hold Shift and just click anywhere where there is a polygon. See? It hides that. Holding Control and Shift, it'll reverse it. Holding Control and Shift anywhere will turn it all back. So, that's very nice to have. Especially when I'm doing box modeling and I want to make sure that everything is a different polygroup very quickly and go in there and edit it and Edge Loop it, and I'll be showing you that in the next movie. So, let's Group these Visible, Control Shift, there we go. So that is hiding and unhiding Geometry, and also grouping geometries very smartly that we can go in here and edit just different parts of the mesh.
