Introduction / Toolbox and Menus

Subtitles of the Movie

Finally let's look at the other tools in the toolbox. We have a magnifier, a scroller hand, a paint bucket, the crop tool, the eyedropper for picking up color that's already in the image, a rectangular and elliptical selection tool, a lasso, the magic wand, a mover tool. This is for moving a layer, this one is for moving a selection, and this hollow arrow is for selecting and moving anchor points and wings when you are working in a vector environment with shapes. The pen tool for creating vector shapes, the text tool, tool for adding, subtracting and converting anchor points and splitting a path ,and the rectangular and elliptical shape making tool. As far as menus, we have got the usual suspects in the file menu; this is where you can create a clone of an image, or change the clone source to any image that is open. Edit menu affects include a group of orientation effects for applying to either an entire layer or to a selection; you can use the fill command as an alternative to the paint bucket; tonal controls allow you to make a number of color adjustments and corrections; surface control has numerous ways that you can apply changes such as lighting; apply screen can be a powerful way to reduce the number of colors to 3 colors that you choose; image warp and quick warp are wonderful distortion effects. Woodcut, distress, and serigraphy or silk-screen are new to Painter 7 and we will be using them in some lessons. Focus group of effects includes a number of things that we will use including glass distortion, which will apply a kind of a shower door effect. Esoterica gives us marbling blobs and a number of other rather interesting possibilities. Objects that you create a drop shadow, and here is where other third party plug-ins are available such as the Kai Power Tools in this case. In the canvas menu you can re-size the entire image or add pixels in any direction by using canvas size. here's the make mosaic or make tessellation command. Surface lighting which will enhance a depth effect; tracing paper; change the paper color; and other choices for enhancing your productivity; the select menu and the movie menu which we'll use when we create animation; shapes can be given their attributes and can convert to layers and selections using this sequence of commands; and the window menu is where you can choose to hide or show any of the palettes.
