Introduction / Objects Palette
Subtitles of the Movie
The objects palette has the same, mostly the same, members that it had before. But there are some definite changes. In the layers palette you still have the composite methods shown and your list of layers with the visibility icons and the kind of layer it is. In this case it is a standard image layer. It might be a shape it might be a plug-in or dynamic layer and they are listed in this place at the bottom of the layer section. Here is a section where you can group, ungroup, collapse and drop layers. You can choose a new layer or a new watercolor or new liquid ink layer here. And of course when you have a layer selected and click on the trashcan, it will be deleted. Now with this apple layer, I can work with the mask, and let me just close the layers section so that the mask section is higher up on the screen. I've got some new icons down here. This will invert the mask. Now that apple is invisible and I can simply invert it once again. I can make a selection on the layer, and I can save that selection with this icon and I'll click OK. And I'll deselect, and I can load the selection with this icon. So it is now back again. We can close up the masks section. Scripts are as before. A library of items that you can playback and this will also give you an opportunity to record your own scripts. The selection portfolio is a place where you can simply drag preset selections and then act upon them anyway you choose. The image portfolio, that's where I got the apple, is a source for number of image selections that become layers. There is the paintbrush and you can create your own image portfolio, which we will do in one of our lessons. This is a new way of looking at text in Painter 7. You got a place to choose the font, you have alignment choices, point size, tracking of space between lettering, space between lines. You can choose from two different kinds of shadows. Create altered setting for either text or shadow, and you can choose the kind of curve that you would like if you in fact do want a curve on the text.
