Welcome to Painter 7 techniques. I am Rota Grossman. I've been using Painter ever since Version 1 for both fine art and graphics and illustration assignments. I've written a couple of books on earlier versions of Painter and I've been teaching Painter for about 5 years I'll be taking you through several projects, some of which will be fine-art oriented, some more commercial or production oriented, some experimental. Let's take a look at some of the images that you'll be working with. You'll use this tiger lily photograph to practice with Painter 7's new watercolor engine, and this is the kind of thing you will develop with these watercolor brushes. You'll create a custom nozzle from some images of violins that start out as vector files. You'll learn how to acquire and rasterize these items, and then apply some text for this fictitious CD cover. You'll use two of Painter's brand new techniques: woodcut and serigraphy, serigraphy being a fancy word for silkscreen. And as you can see that does have a kind of a silk screen look. Once again starting with a photograph, this time of a teenage boy, you'll make a painterly version of his face using the cloner brushes. And I must say that the number and quality of the cloner brushes has increased tremendously for Version 7. Here's an example of the kind of caricature that I have been doing using face parts that have come from scanned images that I put together in my own image portfolio. If I show you where that would be located, the image portfolio that comes with the program looks something like that. And I'll show you how to create your own image portfolio of face parts. You'll begin with a vector file, this dinosaur which is from a copyright free collection that I am sharing with you, and you'll make a cartoon version of this dinosaur which will then be used for another project to make a children's book cover. One of the things that we did in the Painter 6 techniques collection was make an animated image from a sequence of still photographs. And using Painter's unique capability of cloning frames from an existing frame stack, we were able to recreate this live action footage as a Painterly kind of animation. So you'll be able to stop movies at any point, rewind, fast-forward, take a break; and the movies are provided in no particular order. So you can just do whatever interests you without fear of missing something important. And I do hope you have as much fun as I'm having.
