Exam Domains / Schedule Communication & Reporting
Subtitles of the Movie
In this movie, we'll review the exam domain schedule communication and reporting, which also encompasses 23 percent of the exam. You've seen communication and reporting surface for each of the other domains and here we're getting a bit more specific. The exam objectives under this domain include generate quality assurance reports, develop and distribute scheduling reports, develop and distribute ad hoc reports and conduct meetings to review the project schedule. Let's start with the first; generate quality assurance reports. Within project scheduling we've seen how time management interacts with so many other knowledge areas and here we again see this but with quality. There are several things to know about the quality knowledge management area for scheduling purposes, including the various techniques used to analyze information and to generate reports. I've mentioned previously the communication management plan which we'll make use of in our next exam objective; develop and distribute scheduling reports. The communications management plan guides us in knowing what reporting techniques are used, the format used and how to prevent them. The reports distributed and published will include several items, such as schedule forecast, analysis of the critical path, earned value and so forth. Next, we also have developing and distributing ad hoc reports, which are those reports generated for a specific purpose. This will satisfy specific request made. Many times we're bombarded with information from all directions so schedulers need to put this information together and compile it into detailed reports. The final objects is conduct meetings to review the project schedule. This is clearly a communications-related item, although meetings are often when reports are distributed and progress updates collected and made. For meetings that are schedule related or as an agenda item to a project status meeting, the scheduler should have the ability to facilitate and communicate with the project team and stakeholders as needed. The scheduler should also be aware of the information requirements of the stakeholders and of the team members. There are several responsibilities that a scheduler has. It's not limited to working with a project schedule hidden away in a room as one might imagine or think. Just like the role of a project manager, you can see that there's a great deal of communication and interaction involved. That was the final exam objective under schedule communication and reporting. To date, we've touched on all five of the PMI SP Exam domains. Clearly I've only given you a small gist of what each covers. We'll spend several hours delving in to them closer. Although we may not necessarily cover each exam objective in order, we will cover all of them, spending additional time in some areas as needed. And that's because several of these are intertwined and not necessarily performed in a given order. And that concludes this movie and this section; an overview of the exam domains and the exam objectives within each of the PMI SP Certification Exam.
