Exam Domains / Schedule Creation

Subtitles of the Movie

In this movie, we will cover the schedule creation exam domain, which literally encompasses the creation of the schedule. Twenty-three percent of the scored exam will cover this area so you may see as many as 35 questions. The exam objectives include participate in defining scope, develop and communicate complete activity list according to the project scope, sequence activities and identify dependencies, estimate activity durations, assign resources to activities, incorporate resource leveling and known constraints, obtain schedule approval and generate the schedule baseline. I mentioned in the previous movie that the first exam domain covered several important areas pertaining to the foundation of project scheduling. Our first exam objective under the schedule creation domain is also one of those important initial items. Participating in scope definition is important because an understanding of project objectives and goals increases. As this first objective states, this includes being a part of defining the scope and also translating the project deliverables into schedule information. This should be a red flag that you should be familiar with the process of define scope and being able to recognize how the process pertains and connects with the time-management processes. Our next objective is developing and communicating the activity list according to the project scope. So now that the project scope has been defined, we'll take the work breakdown structure and decompose it down to the activity list. You should understand this process, which is the first official process within the time management knowledge area and how to communicate this information and to whom. Communication is present throughout the majority of the exam objectives. Next, we have sequencing the activities, which includes identifying the dependencies. What sequencing methodologies will you use and how do you go about it? Well cover this process thoroughly. The exam objective that follows simply goes right into the next logical step in schedule creation, which is estimating the duration of the activities. We then have assigning resources to the activities. What tools and skills will you use to perform these actions and what industry standards will you make use of? Again, these are the types of question that you may ask yourself in practice in relation to these objectives. Our next objective says incorporate resource leveling and known constraints. As you work through the schedule, adjustments will become necessary both in consideration of resource available, funds available and existing known constraints. Authorize will need to be obtained through the project manager before moving forward and implementing the official schedule baseline. Baselines are important for measuring progress and performance in this case of the schedule and naturally we would need to first generate the actual schedule baseline before any implementation can occur. Again, this would be to create something to measure performance against. And that wraps up our live review of this exam domain bringing this movie to a close.
