Introduction / PMI-RMP Credential Overview
Subtitles of the Movie
In Part 1 of this course series, I provided you with an overview of the PMI-RMP Credential, as well as the requirements for taking the exam. You will also find information on the four domains covered within the exam. For those of you that have not had an opportunity to go through that first section of Part 1, I've included a summary in this movie as well as some new bits of information that I hope will prove helpful to you. Overall, the application has two categories of requirements: hours of work experience in the specialized area of risk management and education in the specialized area of risk management. How much you need in each category depends on your highest level of education attained. If you have a high school diploma, associates degree or the global equivalent, you need 4500 hours of work experience that involved risk management activities. It's not necessary that your titles have been risk manager or that you have only conducted risk management activities as part of the main function of your job. Simply you may only count those hours of work experience that you've been working with a project risk capacity. You also need to 40 educational hours within the area of risk management, such taking this course. These are called contact hours. If you have a Bachelor's Degree or the global equivalent, you need 3,000 hours of work experience and 30 contact hours, both relating to project risk. By the way, no matter which of these you fall in, the work experience must have been accrued over the past five consecutive years. So unfortunately, if you focused on risk management ten years ago, but have not been in the field in most of the past five to make the total hours, you do not yet qualify for the exam. In regards to the contact hours, there's no limit set regarding how far back you've taken the course or courses. Remember that applications are audited at random and if you're audited, you must be able to provide documentation such as certificate of completion. Approach your application as you'll be audited to make sure that the process goes quickly and smoothly if you're are selected. For exam domains covered, these include risk communication, risk analysis, risk response planning and risk governance. And to the right-hand side of the screen, the column with the percentages, this indicates how much of the exam is focused on what domain. For example, 27 percent of the exam questions will consist of risk communication. I'd like to point out that you can fill out your application online. To do this, go to PMI.org. On the left-hand side of the screen you'll see a box to login. If you aren't registered yet, you may create an account for free and this is separate from being a PMI Member, although the amount of money that you do save don the application from being a PMI Member will cover the cost of membership. Once logged in, you'll scroll to the bottom of the screen and on the left-hand side click on Certificate Information and Application. From there you'll click Apply for PMI RMP Credential and then follow the indicated steps to fill out your application. Just a quick side note that PMI does change their website often so your screen may look slightly different. Here are a few other resources to help you with the application process. To download the credential handbook, which has additional information about the exam and application process, visit the following link that you see on your screen. You can also find this link in a separate document that I've included for you in your Work Files and this document is called Exam Work Experience, which is an Excel spreadsheet. You can use a spreadsheet to document your work experience and then Copy and Paste the information onto your online application. And that wraps up this movie. I hope you learned something that'll help you work through your certification application. In the next movie you'll learn how to get the most out of this course.
