In this movie I'll go through a few study tips to help you prepare for the Exam. We went through several Exam tips as part of your Workbook, so let's see if we can add to the information that you already have to make test day smooth and pain free. My first recommendation is to utilize the Study Plan provided in Part 1 of this Course Series. Here I recommended that you go through all three Risk Management Courses that make up this Series. I also recommended that you at least read through the PMBOK Guide once; that you memorize the Risk Management processes and their corresponding inputs, tools and techniques and outputs; that you be familiar with the Risk Register update cycle; and that you take a full length exam. As I just mentioned, I recommend taking a full length exam within the real exam time of three and a half hours. Going through a few practice questions here and there is a completely different experience than sitting down for a long stretch of time. It can be mind boggling and you should be prepared for it. Most people report taking longer during the actual Exam than they did during full length practice exams at home, so if you take more than three and a half hours to complete a practice exam, you should be aware of this. Next, I recommend using multiple study mediums, such as going through these movies, reading the PMBOK Guide, and creating flash cards to ensure that you do not remember items in sequence. One word of caution is using resources to study from that create poor habits. In going through some practice exams out there I've noticed that some tend to make the questions purposely complex, more so than the exam will. Also, avoid any material that contains questions which have more than one answer or none, such as a fourth option of None of the above, and All of the above, or an added fifth option. I have mentioned this before: the real Exam will contain only four with one answer. Be sure to memorize the formulas that we covered. There weren't that many. During a review of the Workbook Exercises from the sections covering the Risk Register updates, we went through several tips on how to strategically work through a question. Be sure that you absorb these suggestions, go through them, and use them during your practice. Remember that there's only one correct answer, even if several options are technically correct. Your job is to find the best one, and that would be the one that PMI or the PMBOK Guide would lean toward. I've said this previously that some questions tend to include excess information. These can be daunting and you do need to weed out the irrelevant information that's meant to throw you off. Don't let these slow you down. If you find it too complex to work through, flag it and come back to it later if you have time. Pay attention to words like Best, Except, which I pointed out earlier. On this note, don't scan questions. Read them fully through. When scanning questions we tend to skip these key words that change what you're looking for in the correct answer. This one is really important and sometimes makes the Exam harder for experienced project managers or risk managers. You're answering questions from a PMI or a PMBOK Guide perspective. If the PMBOK Guide points to an answer and your experience points otherwise you select the option leaning on the PMBOK Guide for purposes of the exam. And lastly, when in doubt, go through the process of elimination. And that wraps up this movie on Exam Study Tips.
