Project Communications Management / Introduction to the Processes
Subtitles of the Movie
In this movie, we'll turn our attention to the process flow of the Project Communications Management Knowledge Area. As you saw in the previous section of this course some of the process flow diagrams display complicated relationships and connections between processes while others are simpler and more clear cut. The Communications Process Flow diagram is a fairly straight forward one; in fact it looks somewhat similar to a few other knowledge areas that we've covered in previous courses. The first process Communications Planning utilizes communications technology through Enterprise environmental factors and it also utilizes lessons learned from within the knowledge space and historical information through organizational process assets. Outside of integration all the other knowledge areas we've covered so far begin the process flow utilizing some things from within the Organizational Process Assets and Enterprise Environmental Factors for planning purposes. The Communications Planning Process also utilizes the Project Scope Statement through the scope definition process as well as project management plan through the develop project management plan process. These last two items mentioned contain information of the project, out of this process emerges the Communications Management Plan a subsidiary plan of the Project Management Plan. The Communications Management Plan is essential to the next process Information Distribution. The Communications Management Plan is actually the only input to this process which involves the execution of this plan. Through this process requested changes may emerge and a distribution of information is fed into the next process Performance Reporting. The Performance Reporting Process not only receives and utilizes information from the Information Distribution Process but also from the directed managed Project Execution Process which provides work performance information and deliverables. From here requested changes and recommended corrective actions are sent into the Integrated Change Control Process which sends back those requests and recommendations that have been approved for implementation. Out of this process performance reports and forecasts are generated and submitted into the Manage Stakeholders Process. The Manage Stakeholders Process generates requested updates to the Integrated Change Control Process which if approved are sent to the develop project management plan process so that the Project Management Plan may be updated. These updates generally involve the Communications Management Plan, this process also feeds information to the close project process involving resolved issues or updates to the Organizational Process Assets. And that covers the process flow of the Communications Management Knowledge Area. As I mentioned previously it's a fairly straight forward process flow, one thing that I'd like to remind you of is that in the real world projects don't normally flow in such a neat and an exact fashion but instead you'll see processes overlap and potentially interact in ways that aren't reflected in the process flow diagrams, this could depend on various factors but its good to begin with this type of foundation and that brings this movie and overview of the process flow to a close.
