Subtitles of the Movie

The Project Human Resource Management Knowledge Area is critical to project because without the project staff all that we've worked through to date cannot be carried out. This knowledge area makes sure that activities have skilled team members to carry them through. This movie will focus on providing you with a brief summary of the overall Human Resource Knowledge Area. The Human Resource Knowledge Area consists of four processes, human resource planning, acquire project team, develop project team and manage project team. The overall purpose of the knowledge area is to organize, develop and manage the project team. When we first reviewed the process flow in PMBOK Part 3 I mentioned that the process flow of the Human Resource Knowledge Area is very intuitive. First the human resource planning activities takes place, setting up the foundation for the rest of the HR processes. Next the roles and responsibilities are defined and project team assignment's takes place. Literally the team is acquired in this process. The team will then develop and then managed; it happens all in a very clear flow. Let's move on to look at the processes for a quick summary and review. In the Human Resource Planning Process the purpose is to identify and document project roles, responsibilities and reporting relationships and to create the staffing management plan. The staffing management plan contains several important themes such as how and when the team will be acquired, training needs, compliance, recognition and addressing things like safety issues. The result is defined rules and responsibilities, project organization charts and the staffing management plan. In the acquire project team process the purpose is to obtain the human resources needed to complete the project. Negotiation for staff takes place, pre-assignments are also identified here, acquisition if some or all of the project team will be acquired external to the project and the utilization of virtual teams. The result includes the project staff assignments; it takes the roles and responsibilities of the planning process and placing a real body into it. Also resource availability is generated here as an output. In develop project team the purpose is to improve the competencies and interaction of team members to enhance project performance. Developing a team raises productivity, morale and skill level which all results in better project performance. The key output and only output of this process are the team performance assessments. These measure the team's effectiveness with the goal of increasing their performance. Tools and techniques such as training and utilizing general management skills help to make this happen as well as recognition and rewards. And the final process is manage project team which tracks team member performance, provides feedback, resolves issues and coordinates changes to enhance the project performance. Rather then assessing the team as a whole project performance appraisals take place in the process which provides individual project team members with feedback. Conflict is also managed in this process. This knowledge area also encompass several theories and concepts, like quality this knowledge area also encompasses several theories and concepts that you should be familiar with if you are taking the PMP certification exam specifically. These conflicts and theories are displayed on your screen, for a thorough review please revisit PMBOK Part 3. Clearly project management is not just about managing the schedule and cost but also about managing the project staff. And with that we'll close out this movie on an overview of the project Human Resource Management Knowledge Area.
