Introduction / Study Tips
Subtitles of the Movie
In this movie, I'll go through a few study tips to help you prepare for the exam, since we'll be covering the final quarter of the PMBOK Guide you've likely been studying for the exam prior to taking this course. However I recommend taking a few minutes to go through these study tips. My first recommendation is to utilize the study plan provided in PMBOK Part 1, here I recommended that go through all four parts of the PMBOK Course Series, I also recommended that you at least once read through the PMBOK Guide, that you memorize the Knowledge Areas and Process Groups Diagram which is the document included within your work files titled, Process Overview, that you utilize flashcards and as I'll mention again in a moment that you take a full length exam. As I just mentioned I recommend taking a full length exam within the real exam time of four hours, going through a few practice questions here and there is a completely different experience then sitting down for a long stretch of time. Its mind boggling and you should be prepared for it. Most people report taking longer during the actual exam then they did during full length practice exams taken at home. So if you take more then four hours to complete a practice exam be aware of this. Next I recommend using multiple study mediums such as going through these movies, reading the PMBOK Guide and creating flashcards to ensure that you don't remember items in sequence. One word of caution I have is using resources to study from that create poor habits. In going through some practice exams out there I've noticed that some tend to make the questions purposely complex, more so then the exam will. Also avoid any material that contains questions which contain more then one answer of none such as a fourth option of none of the above or all of the above or even a fifth option. The real exam will only contain one answer. Be sure to memorize all formulas period. Here's a few tips regarding exam questions, you should know by now that all questions are multiple choice and I already mentioned this next one that there's only one correct answer. I've said this previously as well, that some questions tend to include excess information, this can be daunting and you need to weed out the irrelevant information that is meant to throw you off, don't let these slow you down, if you find it too complex to work through, flag it and come back to it later if you have time. Pay attention to words like best and accept which I point out during our review of the exam practice questions. On this note don't scan questions, read them fully through, we tend to skip these key words that change what you're looking for in the right answer. This next one is really important and sometimes makes the exam harder for experienced Project Managers, you're answering questions from a PMI or PMBOK perspective. If the PMBOK Guide points to one answer and your experience points otherwise, you select the option leaning towards the PMBOK Guide for purposes of the exam. And lastly when in doubt go through the process of elimination and that wraps up this movie on exam study tips, hopefully you've picked up a few tidbits to help you prepare and get through the exam.
