Introduction / How to Get the Most From This Course
Subtitles of the Movie
This movie will provide you with an overview of the course structure and the resources that are provided to you within your course Work Files. Knowing what these Work Files are for and utilizing them is meant to help you get as much as possible out of this course. The first thing I'd like to mention is that the purpose of this course is specifically to focus on the fourth through sixth knowledge area of the PMBOK Guide and this includes the project cost management knowledge area, project quality management knowledge area, and project human resource management knowledge area. The goal of the course is not to help you memorize the contents, but to help you understand each individual process within the knowledge areas and to go one step farther and help you understand how the processes function together. This is what sets this course apart from other courses in helping you understand the PMBOK Guide fully so that you can actually apply the contents and also to help you from the bigger picture. Each knowledge area is structured in the same way, with a brief introduction on the knowledge area itself, a brief overview of how the processes of that knowledge area interact with each other, and then we will move into an overview of each individual process. Within each process, we'll cover the inputs, tools and techniques, and the outputs so you will get an insight into each process. As I mentioned earlier, before going through the course, you will want to look through your project Work Files, there are several documents included and some of these documents are formatted to assist you in taking key notes of the processes. We all have varying study techniques and strategies, but these documents are formatted to be used as reference sheets later on. I'll quickly go through the documents that are included. The first is simply a list of terms. You'll notice that most of these documents require that you fill in the definitions or details. This is done purposely since it's been shown that writing the definitions and notes manually actually helps to lock it in memory. The lists of terms are also covered in the term review movies towards the end of the course, the term movies simply provide highlights of each term, so additional notes may be necessary as your go through the process review movies. You'll find documents labeled node book, there is one per knowledge area and it is formatted to take notes for that specific knowledge area and its processes. You'll find an assessment document that includes some preliminary questions to the knowledge area overall. These are formatted in the same way and the goal is to test your current knowledge to see how much you've retained from PMBOK Part 1 of the high level concepts or just to see how much you currently know. I recommend going through the assessment before the knowledge area overview, after the knowledge area overview, and then again after reviewing all of the individual processes. It's a simple assessment document that takes about five to ten minutes to go through. There is a process workbook which contains about six to fifteen questions on average per process. At the end of each process section, we'll go over the answers. And there are eighty exam practice questions in this course, organized by knowledge area and followed at the end with practice questions on theories and concepts that are related to quality and human resource management. Answers will be reviewed within the exam question movies, located towards the end of the course. And you'll find a process overview sheet that was also included in PMBOK Part 1 and 2, and this is a great reference sheet to have handy. And lastly, there's a document titled Fourteen Steps to Total Quality Management which was written by a quality theorist named W. Edwards Deming. I reference this during one of the quality theory movies, and this is included simply as a reference to the comments made in that particular movie, you don't need to memorize or study the fourteen steps for the exam, although it's good information to review for your own personal benefit. And with that, we'll close up this movie and move into a brief overview of the PMBOK Guide before moving into the detailed process review movies.
