Project Integration Management / Assessment Review

Subtitles of the Movie

In this movie, we will review the Knowledge Area Assessment for the integration knowledge area, which is a document found within your work files. My recommendation is to have taken the assessment prior to going through the knowledge area review. Go through it again after the review and then once again after going through the individual process review. The point is to go through a check and see if there is improvement in the amount of information you are retaining and it's a good way to review and practice as well. The assessment covered five things; the knowledge area's purpose, name the processes, identify the process group for each process, recall the purpose of each process and finally the key outputs of each process. So let's quickly go through these items for the integration knowledge area. The purpose of the project integration management knowledge area is to coordinate all aspects of the project management plan in order to accomplish the project objectives. There are seven processes in integration. They include develop project charter, develop preliminary project scope statement, develop project management plan, direct and manage project execution, monitor and control project work, integrated change control and close project. What's unique about this knowledge area is that it contains processes within each process group; the only knowledge area where this occurs. So let's go through the process group for each. The develop project charter is part of the initiating process group, as is the preliminary project scope statement. The develop project management plan process is part of the planning process group. The direct and manage project execution process is part of the executing process group and the next two are part of the monitoring and controlling process group. And lastly, close project is part of the closing process group. And now let's go through the purpose of each process. Of course, it's not necessary to get these correct verbatim, just understand the concept. The purpose of the develop project charter process is to formally authorize a project or a project phase. The purpose of the develop preliminary project scope statement process is to provide a high-level description of the project scope and provide the definition of the project. The develop project management plan process documents the necessary actions to define, prepare, integrate and coordinate the subsidiary plans. The direct and manage project execution process directs and manages the project work. And the monitor and control project work process monitors and controls the processes that are used to initiate, plan, execute and close a project. Integrated change control process reviews change requests, approves or denies them and controls changes to the deliverables. And the final process has a purpose of finalizing all the activities within the five process groups with the intent of formally closing out the project or the project phase. And the final piece for review are the key outputs of each process. All outputs are important, but there are some that are generated that worth highlighting from the rest. It's important that you remember these key outputs. The develop project charter has the project charter. These first three in general are quite easy to remember. The develop preliminary project scope statement has the preliminary project scope statement and the next is the project management plan. Direct and manage project execution has the following key outputs of the deliverables and work performance information. Monitor and control project work has forecasts and recommendations. The integrated change control has several approvals including change requests, corrective actions, preventive actions, defect repairs and validated defect repairs. And lastly, the close project has key outputs of the administrative closer procedure and the contract closure procedure. And that wraps up the review of the assessment. If you weren't able to fill out much on the first round, don't worry. That's why you're going through this course. Remember that we'll be going through the processes individually and thoroughly.
