Now that we've completed a detailed review of the Monitor and Control Project Work Processes, we'll turn our attention over to the questions found within your workbook, which is located in your work files. There are six questions relating to this process. The first question says what is the purpose of this process. As a review, the Monitor and Control Project Work Process monitors and controls the processes used to initiate, plan, execute and close the project in order to meet the performance objectives that are defined in the Project Management Plan. The next three questions provide a refresher and test your memory on the inputs, tools and techniques and the outputs of the process. Even without memorizing these, see if you can figure out what would logically be included. I do recommend knowing the outputs. By knowing the outputs, ask yourself what information and or documents would I need to generate these and what tools and techniques would I need to utilize my inputs? Aside from recommendations and requested changes, this set of outputs includes forecasts. Question five states this process has an important role within the Project Management processes. Name at least three things that it is responsible for. There are six things that you could have chosen from. These include compare actual performance data collected against the Project Management Plan, assess whether any corrective or preventive actions are necessary and make recommendations, analyze, track and monitor project risk, maintain ongoing information base of the project's products and documentation, provide information for use of reporting, progress measurement and forecasting and monitor implemented changes as they occur. It's common to get this process confused with Direct and Manage Project Execution Process. The confusion comes from the act of managing the activities of the project versus monitoring them. But remember that this process, Monitor and Control Project Work, is monitoring and controlling activities that have already been executed, whereas the Direct and Manage Project Execution Process is concerned with executing the activities of the Project Management Plan. And the final question for review is what is the difference between recommended corrective actions and requested changes. Similar to the types of confusion I mentioned in the previous question, this is another one that often stumps people. Let's take a look at the response. And that is recommended corrective actions are made to bring expected future project performance in conformance with the Project Management Plan, while requested changes are made to bring about present change and these changes typically involve something to do with expanding or reducing the project scope, modifying policies, procedures, cost, budgets or revisions to the project schedule. That closes out the workbook review. A couple of parting thoughts; just a reminder that this process occurs throughout the project and it gives the project management team insight into the status of the project, whether it's progressing as it should and whether any changes or needed to keep the project moving on a successful path. Overall the focus here is on the project's performance.
