Introduction / How to Get the Most of this Course
Subtitles of the Movie
In this movie, I'll provide you with a snapshot of the course structure and the resources provided to you to help you get this most out of this course. The first thing I'd like to mention is that the purpose of the course is to specifically focus on the first three knowledge areas of the PMBOK Guide; Integration Knowledge Area, Scope Knowledge Area and Time Knowledge Area. The goal of the course is not to help you memorize the contents, but to understand each individual process with the knowledge areas and to go one step further; to help you understand how the processes function together. This will not only help you pass the exam, but it'll actually put the concepts to good use and apply it to your current project management effort. Each knowledge area is structured in the same way; with a brief introduction on the knowledge area itself, a brief overview of how the processes of the knowledge area interact with each other and then we will move into an overview of each individual process. Within each process, we will cover the inputs, the tools and techniques and the outputs so you will get an insight into each process. Before going through the course, it's a good idea to look through your project work files. There are several documents included and some of these documents are formatted to assist you in taking key notes of the processes. Everyone has different techniques and strategies when it comes to taking notes, but these documents are formatted in a way so that you can utilize them as a reference sheet later on. I'll quickly go through the documents that are included. The first is simply a list of terms. You'll notice that most of these documents are blank and that you must fill in the definitions or details. This is done purposely since it's been shown that writing the definitions and notes manually actually helps lock it in memory. Then you'll find documents labeled Notebook. There is one per knowledge area and it's formatted to take notes for that specific knowledge area and its processes. You'll find an assessment document that includes some preliminary questions to the knowledge area overall. These are formatted in the same way and the goal is to test your current knowledge to see how much you've retained from PMBOK Part 1 of the high-level concepts or just to see how much you currently know. I recommend going through the assessment before taking the Knowledge Area Overview and then after going through the Knowledge Area Overview and then once again after reviewing all of the individual processes. It's a simple assessment document that takes about five to ten minutes to go through. There is a Process Workbook which contains about six to fifteen questions on average per process. At the end of each process section, we will go over the answers. There are 45 practice exam questions organized by knowledge area. Answers will be reviewed within the exam question movies. And you will find a Process Overview Sheet that was also included in PMBOK Part 1. This is a great reference sheet to always have handy and there is also a copy in the PMBOK Guide. The PM Experience Sheet is an Excel document that comes in handy if you haven't submitted your application for the PMP Exam yet. It provides space for you to organize your project management experience and other application details. So filling out your application will be easier and smoother. And with that we'll close out this movie and move into an overview of the project lifecycle, process groups and knowledge areas before diving into the individual knowledge area processes.
