Subtitles of the Movie

In this movie, we will now turn our attention to a workbook review on the section covering Create WBS Process. As a reminder, you'll find the workbook within your work files. There are eleven questions to cover, so we'll jump right in. Question one states what is the purpose of this process. And the purpose of the process is to subdivide the major project deliverables and project work into smaller, more manageable components. Questions two, three and four are an overview of the inputs, tools and techniques and outputs, which you can see the decomposition of the project work take place. Question five asks you for the type of structure that the Work Breakdown Structure represents. And the answer is that it is a hierarchical structure. There's some additional information also provided here stating that it is deliverable-oriented. Question six says what does the WBS contain? And the answer is that it contains work approved within the Project Scope Statement, which was something generated in the previous process. Question seven says if a deliverable in the WBS has been assigned a Code of Account identifier of 4.3, what identifier number will be the next deliverable on the same level or branch assigned. And the answer is 4.4. Remember that a Code of Account is a numbering system within the WBS that serves as identifiers. This is different from a Control Account, which are manageable control points within the WBS. Question eight is a follow up of question seven. It asks based on the previous question what account identifier number will the next deliverable located below 4.3 be assigned as a further decomposed deliverable. And the answer is 4.3.1. You can see a sample of this in the lower, right-hand side of the WBS, which displays the number to question eight. Question nine states what information do you need in order to create the Scope Baseline. And there are three things that you need: the Detailed Project Scope Statement, WBS and the WBS Dictionary. And question ten states how far do you decompose the WBS. And the answer is that it is decomposed to a manageable work effort. This is why the WBS is not broken down to the activity level, but rather the work package level. There can be a mass of activities within a project and as you'll see within this course, those are displayed through the project schedule, the activity list and other documents. The WBS serves as a different purpose, which is to show a high-level breakdown of the work. And our final question for review is during the Create WBS move review, three basic steps for decomposing a WBS were provided. What are these three steps? And these include analyze the Detailed Project Scope Statement using a WBS template structure and organized deliverables and associated project work into a WBS and then you create one of the following structures, either organized by major deliverables and sub-projects as a first level of decomposition or by sub-projects developed by organizations outside of project team or by phases of the project lifecycle as first level of decomposition and deliverables as a second level or by using a mixture of approaches in the WBS. And that wraps up this movie on the workbook question review of the Create WBS Process.
