By now you have a fair amount of understanding of the projects framework, environment and life cycle. So far in this course you have also been exposed to several project documents that is important to the overall management of the project. In this movie, we will identify and review these documents providing you with a clear understanding of the project management package as presented by the PMBOK Guide. The overall purpose of this course is to provide you with a foundation of a project and of the project management activities and our aim in this context is to understand the high level overview of the pieces that make up the project and project management activities. Let's jump right into our live review of these documents and keep in mind that of course every project is different and may not include all of these pieces. There are three major project documents, the project charter which formally authorizes the project. The project scope statement which states what work needs to be accomplished and the deliverables that need to be produced and the Project Management Plan, which states how the work will be performed. As you know by now the project management plan also contains subsidiary plans and other components. Let's delve further into these subsidiary plans. The Project Management Plan contains eight subsidiary plans which layout the criteria for planning, developing, managing and controlling its respective area. These are the scope management plan, schedule management plan, cost management plan, quality management plan, Staffing Management Plan, the Communications Management Plan, Risk Management plan and finally the Procurement Management Plan. As I mentioned earlier there are other components within the Project Management Plan as well, these include the Process Improvements Plan which is a quality output concerned with analyzing the processes to identify any non value activities. It contains things like process boundaries, process configuration, process metrics and targets for improved performance. We have the, Milestones List, the Resource Calendar that tells you when all resources are available and the Risk Register which has the list of identified risks, potential risks, root causes of risks and also the updated risk categories. The Project Management Plan also contains three baselines. These baselines help us measure the performance and progress of the project as its underway allowing us to see whether its on target. There is the schedule baseline, the cost baseline and the quality baseline. So in review we have three major documents, eight subsidiary plans within the Project Management Plan and seven components also within the Project Management Plan. Let me remind you again that not all projects will contain every single one of these documents shown within the Project Management Plan. The more complex the project the more elaborate in detail you will find the Project Management Plan to be. The project management team will need to make this call according to the project, however every project should contain the three major documents shown here and that concludes our review of the project documents.
