This is ZENworks Desktop Management 7, and in this video we're going to give a very brief overview of the topics we're going to cover in this course. Firstly we'll talk about exactly what is ZENworks Desktop Management 7. We will discuss all of the various functions and features of ZENworks Desktop Management 7, or ZDM7 and we'll go over each of these components of ZDM7 work together to give a comprehensive workstation analysis and management system. We will go through the installation of the ZENworks components on a ZENworks server, in our case it's going to be a Windows Server 2003, but the process is the same for a netWare Server if you happen to be running NetWare, or a Linux Server with very few differences, honestly. We will go over how to configure all of the objects in eDirectory that make ZDM7 work; how to point the objects at one another; how to associate the objects; the basic settings that you need to get your ZDM7 infrastructure up and running. We'll also talk about configuring policies, workstation policies, server policies, search policies, the list is practically endless. And then we will move on to the meat of ZENworks Desktop Management 7, which is application management. In my opinion, this is where ZDM7 really shines because the application management engine in ZENworks has been developed over many, many years and has had several changes that have been directly attributable to end users and administrators requesting those changes. As a result, the application management and deployment engines are very well developed and, in my opinion, they are some of the best in the industry across all of the Desktop management platforms that are out there. This will be the bulk of what we cover in this tutorial. because again, this is where most administrators get tripped up because there are several options that appear to be contradictory to one another. And, of course, we will go over all of those options in minute, painstaking detail, and tell you what they all do and how they all work together. And then, of course, we will talk about workstation inventory: how to collect this inventory; how to report on this inventory; how to collect the reported information and submit it to upper management; how to do a global workstation inventory if you have an international network, or even a national network, how to roll up that inventory data across trees or across containers in eDirectory; and just basically make the best use of the information that's available in the database.
