Initial Configuration / Set Up Automatic Workstation Import pt. 3
Subtitles of the Movie
The last tab we'll look at is the Limits tab. This first field is the User Login number field and honestly it's a little hard for most administrators to figure out exactly what this means. Say you have this scenario where you image a workstation and you have a technician that goes out to the workstation and logs into the workstation to ensure that the Sound Card works and the Network Card works, and et cetera, et cetera. If your Workstation Import Policy has the User name, or the Login name as part of the Workstation Object Identifier in eDirectory then that means every workstation that you have in your network would be branded with this technician's ID because he would be the first person to log into the workstation and the Workstation Import would say, oh, this is the user that's going to login, so let me create the Workstation Object. You can say, I don't want you to look at the user that's logged in until the third time someone's logged into that workstation. That allows the technician to log in and out a couple of times without branding that workstation as a user workstation, for example, and then when the user logs in, then it gathers that user information at the third login. Obviously, 3 is just the default value. You can set it to 5 or 7, or 99, or whatever number your heart desires. You have the option to Disable user history as the workstation is being imported. By default eDirectory creates a list of every user that's logged onto a workstation and stores that information in the Workstation Management Database. If you don't want that to happen to newly imported workstations you can check this box and that won't be collected. The last option is to Limit the number of workstations imported per hour. This is if you have an extremely large network where you would have thousands of workstations an hour coming online. You can tell it, I don't want any more than 10,000 workstations created per hour. This way your Workstation Import Server doesn't get totally slammed trying to import 75,000 workstations all at once. So, now that we've created this, we'll Apply and hit OK, and we'll move on to setting up the Workstation Removal Policy.
