In this lesson let's look at how to find your files so you can get them open to work on them. And of course the easiest command of all, Closing. I can do a Control O to open up files or I can go to File and click Open there. It will automatically show me my most recent documents. Again I can pin those if I want certain ones to stay at the top. I can go to my Skydrive area and open files there. I can go to my local computer or I can even go to SharePoint and open something up. Let's say I want to open up something on my local computer, just select that area and find what I need. And you're good to go. Now I can just go to File and Close and get it out of my way and work on something else. Now if you open up a file that was made in an earlier version of Word, you're going to see it pop up and say something about Compatibility Mode in the Titlebar. So let's take a look at that. In your Work Files, I have included this document made in an older version of Word. So I'll double-click on that, it's going to open it up. Right now it's in Protected View so I'm going to Enable Editing. And right here is where it says Compatibility Mode. All that does is tell me it was made in an older version of Word. It lets me edit the file and give it back to them but it's going to keep me out of some of the newer or enhanced features of 2013. Because those features are not going to be available to that other person who has that older version. For example if I go to Insert and try to do Online Video, I can't do that because I'm in Compatibility Mode. Now I can go up to File and within Info, there's Compatibility Mode and I can inspect the document. If I go there I can check Compatibility and click on the different versions and see if there's any issues that were found. Right now there weren't because it's just plain text. I can go back to File and Info and convert it. It's going to tell me, it's going to be upgraded and give me some more information, I'll click OK and you'll notice no longer is it in Compatibility Mode. So you can open those files that were made in a previous version of Word and convert them into 2013.
