The Windows Desktop / Search from the Start Menu
Subtitles of the Movie
In this video we'll discuss searching using the Search box in the Start menu. You can perform a quick search to see what's on your computer that matches your search criteria by typing that criteria in the Search box at the bottom on the Start menu. Start by clicking the Start menu button. Type one character in the Start search box. In this example you see that I have typed the letter B and the programs and websites I visited appear in the left pane. Yes, I have Baja Fresh as a web favorite. If you want to refine your search type more characters in the Search box. For example, when I type A as the second character, the left pane refreshes and shows only those files and programs that start with the letter B. A. When you remove the letter A the left pane refreshes again to show all the programs and websites that start with the letter B. You can open the program or the website by clicking on the program or site in the list. If your search turns up no matches the Start menu states, no items match your search. You can expand your search by clicking the Search Everywhere link to show all files on your computer that match your search or click Search the Internet for text on websites that match your search. Searching in the Start menu gives you a taste of Windows Vista's powerful new search capabilities. You'll learn more about searching in Chapter 11.
