The Windows Desktop / Accessing Built-In Folders
Subtitles of the Movie
In this video we'll discuss accessing the default directories Windows Vista creates for you. When Windows Vista creates your user account it creates a number of default folders so you can place all your information into those folders without having to create those folders yourself. By default Vista makes three of those folders accessible in the Start menu: Documents, Pictures and Music. Microsoft felt that these three folders are the ones you'll use the most. You can access one of these folders by clicking the Start button and then clicking the Documents, Pictures or Music links in the Start menu. In this example, I've opened the pictures menu. In the folders list in the left pane you'll see your username and a number of folders that Vista automatically creates. You can view the contents of these folders in the right pane by clicking on the folder in the Folders list. The folders you can access include: Contacts which is your address book; Desktop which contains all the files and programs on your desktop; Documents, Downloads which contains files you downloaded from the Internet; Favorites which contain your Internet favorites; Links which contain shortcuts to other folders on your computer; Music, Pictures, Saved Games which contain files that contain the current status of one of the games you're playing on Windows Vista and plan to continue playing later; Searches, which include files with the result of past searches for files and folders on your computer and Videos. You don't have to put your files in these folders of course. But these folders do help you get an idea of how you should structure the storage of files on your computer.
